Wrapping Up The Week

wrapping-up-the-week

This week has passed surprisingly quickly. Several of the big tech giants, namely Apple and Samsung, are slugging it out in court over patents and table design. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and what impact it winds up having on both law and the tech industry. Also big in tech news is that the Curiosity rover will land on Mars this Sunday night/Monday morning. Curiosity, with its on-board science lab, will be able to give us a better idea as to whether or not life ever existed on the Red Planet. If life was able to arise there, then chances are the life permeates the universe itself and that, one day, we might meet creatures who arose on a planet very different from our own home, Earth.

I’ll be heading over to Times Square Sunday to see the landing there with a few friends. If you’re not planning to stay up that late (it will happen at 1:30 am Monday Eastern Time/10:30 pm Sunday Pacific Time), then you might be interested in checking out this video about how the landing is supposed to happen. Since Curiosity is so heavy, the balloon-cushion landing used in other rovers isn’t an option. The new Skycrane technique is pretty interesting and it will be good to see how it pans out whether or not the landing is a success.

Here are some of the other big stories you might have missed out on if you are not following us on Twitter.

That’s all for this week, everyone! Have a good weekend and we’ll see you again on Monday!
