I wanted a unit that could be used outside in our screened porch without having to run extension speakers from my stereo. I did not want the hassle of replacing batteries on a portable unit and wanted enough output power and sound quality for it to sound good. The fact that it was manufactured by Altec Lansing was also a plus. The remote has a range of about 30 feet through the screen. Overall, the T612 completely satisfied my needs.
