The pro platinum has a wider color gamut, a little better gloss, and a better "feel." Canon papers and ink (in a Canon printer) provide the best color matching to the original image. I learned this by trial and error after using a variety of papers. To verify, I did a direct comparison (see image) by printing the same image on two different papers.
