4 out of 5 stars   Don't forget the weights

Review submitted for Canon Waterproof Case WP-DC35 for Powershot S90 (CNWPDC35)
Pros: Functional, Water-tight Seals, Good Depth Range
Cons:
Other Comments: The housing requires weights in order to dive (weights aren't needed if you're just going to use it in a pool or at the beach). Weights are ordered separately. I missed this detail, ordered mine too late, and didn't have them for my once-a-year chance to go diving. The polycarbonate material scratches *really easily*. Get a soft bag or something to carry it in. All in all, it's a whole lot cheaper than an Ikelite or other high-end housing, and gets the job done.

Pros: Easy To Use, Water-tight Seals, Good Depth Range, Functional
Cons: See write-up
Other Comments: This is a great underwater housing for the money. HOWEVER, my only complaint is that you cannot TURN the rear dial on the camera with this housing. If you use aperature or shutter priority, you'll want to be able to turn the dial to change settings! There is a work-around, but it takes two hands: hold down the short-cut button while pressing the back or forward buttons on the rear dial to access the setting you want(you can PRESS the buttons, you just can't turn/spin the dial). You'll get the hang of it pretty easily if you practice on land before ever taking it underwater. I'd LOVE to have the Fisheye FIX housing for this camera, which WILL let you turn the dial, (and it's better built and accepts more accessories), but it costs 4x what this housing does. For the time being, this housing is letting me take some good underwater pictures while I decide if I like the camera well enough to invest the extra in the more expensive housing.

Pros: Good Depth Range, Functional, Water-tight Seals, Easy To Use
Cons:
Other Comments: I bought this for a scuba diving trip. I used to shoot Nikonos IV and V cameras with single or dual strobe setups and I was looking for something lightweight to travel with that would give me digital point-and-shoot capability underwater - obviously not the same quality as the Nikonos, but fun none the less. I had a slave strobe that I took to play with but had difficulty getting it to fire and still be able to position it correctly and manage exposure. I think the strobes with fiber optic connections would work well. The little flash on the Canon S90 camera worked ok for closeup but was essentially not a factor if the subject was 2 ft away or more. Wideangle was pretty blue even with the underwater whitebalance exposure adjustment on the camera. The housing was really easy to use (only one user-serviced o-ring to grease). It picked up a few scratches on the back, but I wasn't treating it with kid gloves either. It was pretty sturdy. The controls were all pretty easy to use. There is a rotating dial on the back you can't rotate with the camera is in the housing, but you can reach all the functions through other menus, so it does not affect the use of the camera. The only complaint I would have is that Canon does not ship it with ballast weights. The housing floats even with the camera in it. To make it truly useful as a diving camera, it would be helpful to have the ballast weights (sold separately) ship with the housing. Overall - two thumbs up. I would go with this camera + housing setup again.
