From my old Canon 20-35, to the newer EF-S 10-22 for my 50D, the optics, weight and construction of Canon products have been a constant in my photography life for, literally, 45 years. This lens is no different. It's not small, light or necessarily inexpensive, but the radical improvements since my 20-35--and certainly my first 28mm lens 40 years ago, when that was considered as wide as you could go without distortion--do not fail to impress. As with any ultra-wide, distortion is there, but take care with the angle of the camera and parallax is minimal. Vignetting, too, is all but eliminated with this lens; it's pretty noticeable in the 20-35, a pretty extreme lens in its day, and still in use on my 5D, but this 16-35 is obviously better. Worth the price? Well, that's for you to decide. I do landscape work for my (and a few friend's) eyes, and do real estate work for a lot of agents in my area, and this will prove to be worth every penny over the next no-telling-how-many years.
