DCR-SX65 Handycam Blue 4GB Camcorder Bundle w Spare Batt, Case and More
(E1SNDCRSX65L)
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: The color on this product is listed as "blue" but when I received the product it was purple! For a return, I had to pay to ship the product back to the company on top of purchasing a new camcorder and then they would reimburse my card 14-21 days after the arrival of the returned camcorder!

DCR-SX65 Handycam Blue 4GB Camcorder Bundle w Spare Batt, Case and More
(E1SNDCRSX65L)
Pros: Good picture quality, Comfortable to hold use, Great Zoom
Cons: No backlight button, Problems with the bundle
Other Comments: I'd been using the predecessor to this particular camcorder, so it took no time to get used to it. (I think I read more of the manual when I got the previous model.)
At first I was disappointed that the new model is slightly wider and slightly heavier, but I soon realized that I can hold the camera steadier than the previous one.
I'm very impressed with the videos I get with it. I haven't used it in very low light, but it does better at dusk and cloudy conditions than other camcorders I've used.
The zoom is great, but I can't hold the camera steady at the long end.
My major disappointment with this model is the lack of a backlight button on the camera body, which I had with not only the previous model, but also with Sony's DVD/memory stick camcorder. That button has been replaced with an "intelligent auto" button which is supposed to recognize backlight and low light. I took comparison shots with the backlight function of this button and the backlight selection in the electronic menu. The one in the menu is noticeably superior.
I also wish they would put viewfinders back on all these small camcorders. Small birds that I see with my eyes are often difficult to find in the LCD. And it's difficult to see anything in an LCD when the sun is on it. And having a viewfinder against my eye helps steady the camera. But this complaint is for all viewfinder-less camcorders!
I was somewhat disappointed with the bundle of accessories, esp. the camera bag: it's too large for this camera. More important, when I first looked at it, the zippers were zipped but had openings. The openings closed up when I ran the zipper, but I can't trust it to stay closed. And it's flimsy with little padding. Also, the two latches to close the main body take too long to open if I want to grab the camera quickly. (It will be used for storage only.)
The mini tripod is much smaller than I expected. I doubt I'll ever use it. I haven't used the cleaning kit or screen guards yet, but they're nice additions to have.
The battery pack, a Zeikos equivalent for the Sony FV-70. This alone is worth the additional cost for the bundle. But I would have been happier with an equivalent of the FV-50. The FV-70 is longer (not flush with the camera) and heavier. It and has more time than I need and, of course, takes longer to charge. But this is just MY preferences. It's still an excellent deal, depending on the following:
NOTE about the DCR-SX65 and non-Sony batteries: After using the camcorder several times with Vivitar batteries (FV-50 equiv.), it stopped working with them. Now, after a couple of minutes using the camera with them, the camera shuts down, with a message in yellow print that the camera can't work with them!! They still work with the older Sony's, and the camera works okay with its own batteries, so I think Sony has added programming for the batteries. (Vivitar is a very old accessory company, and I have faith in its products.)
I started using the Zeikos, but wonder if at some point the DCR-SX65 will reject it also.
Yes, I recommend this product
