I researched long and hard for our first DSLR cameras. I found that Pentax offers metal construction and weather sealing for a fraction of the cost of comparable Nikon and Canon cameras. This is a camera we can grow with. I used a film SLR many years ago and enjoy once again having manual settings and a focus ring on the lens. I had been using auto everything point and shoot digital cameras, and this is making photography fun again. The K-5 gives you so many options, from fully automatic to fully manual, you can have as much control of your photography as you choose. The dials and LCD screens are easy to use, and the owners manual is very in depth explaining how to use the features and settings. I like the fact that the mode dial presents the actual camera settings instead of a bunch of pre-set configurations for you. This is a camera to learn photography with. A word about Beach Camera. My online ordering experience was great. I got a great price on this camera and delivery within a week. Everything was exactly as described on the web site.
