I really like this lens as it checks all the boxes. It has a lens range that can cover the vast majority of casual picture taking, it is brighter than a typical kit lens and can be used in low light, it's not too heavy and small enough to fit in a bag made for the camera with the standard kit lens. It's definitely bigger and heavier than the kit lens, but it's wider, longer, and brighter and ultimately is a great price for what you get. I have no regrets as I get great pictures with it. From landscapes to portraits to marco with this f-stop range it is unbeatable. PLUS, you get Optical Stabilization! Of course the best part is the affordable price. I will have to check with Sigma to find out if it is normal for the motor to stay on even if the OS is switched off. The extra battery draw is not noticeable yet, but, I haven't used it all day yet. So far, I've only use it around the house. That's my baseline. I can compare pictures of the same subjects with my other lenses.
