D5500 24.2MP DX-format DSLR Camera with 18-55mm VR II Lens Refurbished
(NKD55001855BKRB)
Pros: Product arrived very quickly from across the country (NJ to AZ) and was packed carefully in a genuine Nikon box, albeit not the fancy/colorful retail box you'd find at Best Buy or a camera store. I'm fine with that, ok. Everything else was individually wrapped, here were the contents:
a) Camera Body (with cap to cover sensor/open hole where lens would be when no lens in place, plastic in place to protect touchscreen)
b) 18-55 VRII lens (with front and back caps)
c) Battery pack (brand new, holds an incredibly long charge--days at a time with many pictures taken on each of those days)
d) Battery charger (brand new, this is the wall-hugger type, with a fold-away plug. It's also 120-240V, great if you travel to Europe)
e) Neckstrap, black with yellow stripes and "Nikon" logo (brand new)
f) USB cable (brand new, USB to USB MIcro B on Nikon end, somewhat unusual connection so hang on to this one even though you may feel you've got a million USB cables)
g) cable for Audio/Video out to TV (brand new, composite with the old-fashioned RCA plugs (yellow/white/red. You can purchase a mini-HDMI--that goes on the Nikon side to regular HDMI cable on Amazon for under five dollars, my TV doesn't even have RCA plugs anymore, so I'll be doing that shortly)
h) Two small pieces of paper with hand-written serial numbers and guarantees for the 90-day warranties on both the camera & lens, machine-stamped by the Nikon refurbishment center (somewhere here in the United States)
i) one more piece of paper directing where to go to check for latest camera firmware, (updatable with included USB to USB Micro-B cable, however, it was already installed in my case), where to download a Nikon-branded program to view/organize and do basic editing (crop, rotate, adjust color) on photos (not the greatest software, iPhoto for Mac or Photos on Windows 10 much more intuitive in my opinion), and to download a PDF of the owner's manual.
Cons: 1) No hard copy of the owner's manual included. I don't mind this as it was easy to download the PDF and the manual is surprisingly straightforward and easy to read, but a hard copy would have been very nice to put in my camera bag. (I called Nikon USA's customer service number and explained the situation, they sent me a compact copy, meant to go in camera bags, of the manual free of charge...just something to keep in mind if you want the hard copy, or you can always print it.)
2) Not really a con, but the *ONLY* wear I could find anywhere on the camera were two small scuff marks underneath, where a tripod had been attached. They were *VERY* subtle. Everything else looked impeccably new, and I have no doubt that most of the accessories and items in the box besides the camera and lens were in fact brand new.
Other Comments: This is a top-rated camera and buying refurbished (with refurbishment done by Nikon themselves) resulted in a product good in every way as new, but approximately $300 (and one colorful box) less. Pictures taken by the camera show amazing color saturation, detail, and highlights. This is a nice camera. Articulating touch screen means you can take selfies/group pics with the monitor facing you, and you can change almost every setting from the touch screen, eliminating the need for hundreds of tiny, hard buttons...it greatly improves the layout. Finally, the camera has WiFi built in and a free app for Android & IPhone. I have an Android and the app can be used to take pictures (as a remote control of sorts), review pictures, and transfer them instantly from camera to smartphone so they can be uploaded to things like Facebook shortly after taking them. This is the smallest DSLR Nikon has ever made, but it feels hefty (not heavy, just substantial) and is very comfortable to hold. It truly feels like a professional-grade product. Everything you would expect from a top-of-the-line, new-model Nikon DSLR, for an amazing price. Buydig's return policy is extremely generous at 45 days with no restocking fees, and when I called them to ask a question about upgrading my shipping to one-day, they were extremely helpful and kind.
Yes, I recommend this product

D5500 24.2MP DX-format DSLR Camera with 18-55mm VR II Lens Refurbished
(NKD55001855BKRB)
Pros: Great low light performance -- IQ is excellent.
Self cleaning sensor.
Learn the camera, and you don't yearn for extra screens or dials.
Solid build, light weight, not huge.
Cons: Not waterproof, no built in focus motor, so lens selection for autofocus is limited (no big deal -- you can manual focus the old lenses if you really want to use them)
Other Comments: Pleased to have saved almost $300 buying refurb that had about 1000 shutter actuations (probably 1% of the expected shutter life).
Yes, I recommend this product

(E1NKD550018140BK)
Pros: I recently bought this camera, and it is great. Image quality is outstanding, and it has a lot of great features for someone starting out with DSLR cameras, such as myself. I especially enjoy the built-in wifi and touch-screen. It's very handy!
Cons: [...] it's a great deal to get all of this stuff to get started.
