3 out of 5 stars   Great Camera
By Monistaf on May 24, 2015
Review submitted for Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 Digital Camera (SNDSCRX100)
Pros: Very compact, excellent picture quality, panoramic mode is good and video is easy to shoot.
Cons: The flash appears to be flimsy and I there is no manual button to release the flash. Also, when it pops up and fires, you have to be really careful to push it back in. The biggest problem I have is that the disk is not formatted in way that most computers can read (I have tried it on a MAC and Windows). You have to connect the camera directly to the computer using a USB cable to read the images off it. I would have preferred to stick the card in a card reader and get the images off the card without connecting the Camera.

Review submitted for Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 MP 3.6x zoom, Large Exmor lowlight CMOS Sensor - OPEN BOX (SNDSCRX100OB)
Pros: The camera is a small carry anywhere backup to my "big" equipment and has been superb in that roll.
Cons: No viewfinder is a minus to these old eyes in the bright sunlight.
Other Comments: Buydig is a favorite shopping spot for myself and my family!

4 out of 5 stars   Best camera I've purchased to date!
By K on June 25, 2013

Review submitted for Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 Digital Camera (SNDSCRX100)
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: This camera takes beautiful pictures!! It's certainly as close as one can get to a DSLR camera in my experience. I'm pleased with this purchase but it's still new and I've not worked through each function. I do feel it's a perfect choice for its features and professional like pictures for those who don't wish to change lenses and desire a pocket/light weight camera. The one con that really bugs me (and why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) about this camera is how there is no finger grip on the front of the camera like all my others. There is less space for your fingers in front (and in back) and it's very slippery and if not careful very easy to drop. Always use the wrist strap just in case. I wish Sony had thought this through because I have a Nikon that looks almost identical to it (though it doesn't even come close to Sony's picture quality) and holding the Nikon is very comfortable. Also, regarding the grip, I've many times accidentally hit the menu button, the record button and the others as well just by trying to find a comfortable way to hold it and I can't imagine how much harder that would be for a man. Also when using your left hand to try and find a place to hold it, that becomes difficult when using the flash. A FANTASTIC piece of equipment but it should have been a little larger for better hand placement with a rubber grip. Despite my con, I have so much fun with this Sony camera and wow, the optical zoom (the zoom that matters) is amazing for a pocket size camera. No regrets on my purchase and you won't have any either!!

Review submitted for Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 Digital Camera (SNDSCRX100)
Pros: Size Pocketable
Cons: Pop Up Flash In Bad Spot
Other Comments: Use this camera when I need to quickly take photos at home. It is easy to use and takes great pictures. Plan to give it a real test on my vacation trip next month. My one negative is the placement of the pop-up flash. You must get used to not cover with your finger. Would have been great if it was manually controlled.

Review submitted for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 Full HD Digital Camera w/ Zeiss 3.6x Zoom Lens Bundle (E3SNDSCRX100)
Pros: Bokeh, Customization, Low light, Low Light Customization
Cons: Documentation, Manual
Other Comments: This is a take anywhere camera because of its small size. It does well in just about any lighting condition. It is fully customizable according to the photographers taste in terms of output. Also some useful modes for beginners. I highly recommend getting the Book "The photographers guide to the Sony DSC-RX100" by Alexander White. Well worth the extra 10 bucks if you have a kindle. Much better than the online manual. Very poor manual that comes with the camera. The manual is the only negative about this purchase. I purchased it because of the great image quality and the fact that it really is pocketable.

Review submitted for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 Full HD Digital Camera w/ Zeiss 3.6x Zoom Lens Bundle (E3SNDSCRX100)
Pros: Amazing Point And Shoot, Lots of extra features, Compact, Great image quality
Cons:
Other Comments: Compact and easy to travel with. Very expensive for a point and shoot but the image and build quality exceed other point and shoot cameras. It is worth the premium if you are not on a tight budget.

5 out of 5 stars   Pocket size, but HUGE performance
By JayJ on December 31, 2012

Review submitted for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 Full HD Digital Camera w/ Zeiss 3.6x Zoom Lens Bundle (E3SNDSCRX100)
Pros: Image Quality, Full Manual Controls, Jpegs Image Quality, Shoots raw, HD video
Cons: Manual focus control
Other Comments: This looks like a point and shoot, but is much better. That is why it isn't priced like a point and shoot. The image quality is fantastic, and HD video phenominal. It does a great job of focusing while taking video. The focus point is fully adjustable, and tracking is really good. My only gripe is the lens ring, which can set to focus during video needs to turn a lot to adjust focus. Perhaps a firmware update can change that? IMO, this camera is worth every penny of it's price. I'll be leaving my Canon 5D at home much more often.

5 out of 5 stars   Best pocketable camera
By Stu on December 31, 2012

Review submitted for Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 MP 3.6x zoom, Large Exmor lowlight CMOS Sensor - OPEN BOX (SNDSCRX100OB)
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: This is a significant improvement over my Cannon s95 (and the later Cannon models). It's worth the high price to have the best pocketable camera while my kids are little. But, it's not as good as a mid range DSLR camera. So, I will buy the next "big improvement" pocketable camera in a couple of years because there's still a lot of improvement possible.

5 out of 5 stars   The RX100 is a Miniature Marvel
By Bill K on December 19, 2012

Review submitted for Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 Megapixel 3.6x zoom 32GB Digital Camera Bundle (E5SNDSCRX100)
Pros: Great Video, Great display, Useful Art Filters, Excellent lens, Good manual control
Cons: Tricky To Grip
Other Comments: This camera replaces my Sony HX9V which was in some ways very similar, but the upgrade was well worth the added expense. The RX100 starts up faster, has a much better display, a faster f1.8 lens (although with much less zoom range), and has more useful features including a few Art Filters that actually do some amazing things. The RX100 menu system is easy to navigate, and offers complete control over all functions of the camera. The dedicated Function Button lets you choose 7 of the camera functions that you would like quicker access to without going through the menu pages -- very handy. Video is very sharp, and the image stabilization works very well (especially on the Active setting). There are many positive reviews of this camera on camera evaluation sites, and it is easy to see why. Sony has done an incredible job with the RX100, and it has become my new favorite camera. The image quality rivals my Canon 7D (with 24-105mm f4L IS USM), but it is much easier to carry around. A separate battery charger would have been a nice addition, but those are available separately. Fortunately, battery life is very good, and charging via USB is quick and simple enough. I have to give Sony credit for their Watercolor Art Filter. I have never found any of the in-camera artsy processing to be any good in previous cameras I have owned. They have all just been things that Photoshop or Painter applications could do much better. Sony worked some serious magic with a few of theirs, and I have been having a lot of fun experimenting with these creative options in the RX100 (see attached photo). The Illustration filters are also impressive. None of those work while shooting video (too much processing involved), but other filters (sepia, high-contrast B&W, color isolation, etc) can be applied while shooting video. You could most of that in post with your editing software, but there could be times when they come in handy as well. The little pop-up flash does a reasonably good job, but I find that i need to use it far less often than with previous cameras in low-light situations. The fast lens, and image stabilization let you snap shots without flash in all but the darkest interiors. Outdoors, the hand-held twilight setting gives excellent results. The control ring comes in handy when using P, A, S and M modes, letting you set exposure and/or aperture in conjunction with the rear dial. In other modes it can vary zoom or other functions. Some find the lack of click-stops off-putting, but I think it all works quite well. About the only caution I can mention would be that the camera is quite small, with a smooth metal body that can be somewhat slippery. The thumb rest is tiny, but without it there would be nothing to grip. I recommend using the included wrist strap whenever you aren't using a tripod or some other support. Given the business-like aesthetic of the camera, I don't find the handling to be a fault. Some folks complain that there is no hot-shoe, and no viewfinder. For the intended purpose of this tiny camera, both of those would have been add-ons that probably would have compromised the result. Having such a small pocketable camera that captures such great images is really the major appeal of the RX100. Nothing else comes close in this regard. Yes, it costs more, but I believe the added cost is justified.

By Tim Danger on September 26, 2012

Review submitted for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 Full HD Zeiss 3.6x Zoom Lens Digital Camera Utility Bundle (E2SNDSCRX100)
Pros: Great picture quality, Small Size, Fits in your pocket, Sweep Panorama is awesome, Lots of manual controls, Easy Scene Modes
Cons: No External Audio Jack, Expensive
Other Comments: I took my Sony RX100 on a backpacking trip after owning it for only 1 day. I was able to get fantastic photos right away without too much effort. It'll take a little time to learn everything about the camera, but so far I'm very impressed. The photos that this baby takes do not look like they come from a pocket camera. And the sweep panorama feature is unbelievable.
