Review submitted for General Electric Power PRO X550-BL Digital Camera with 16MP, 15X Optical Zoom, 2.7-Inch LCD and 2 (GEX550BL)
Pros: the "pencil design" feature on scenes is pretty cool, also other features on "scene" setting. Has viewfinder in addition to the lcd screen, something I really like in a camera--and easy to change between the 2 views. Built in microphone to hear the video during playback.
Cons: doesn't take picture as soon as button is depressed, either not at all or after a few second delay that usually results in either blurr or loss of the moment I wanted to film.
Other Comments: I had this model of camera for a few years, and LOVED it, my pictures were wonderful, from close up to distant zoom. it was easy to use, but professional looking pictures. loved it so much, that I forgot to put it in the dry bag while kayaking in the ocean--which is why I had to order a new one now. (I did still get over a year of great photography even after this idiot moment of mine--dried it out very well, but still corroded inside somewhat.) My new one--(this review) is HORRIBLE, at first (during 45 day store return period!) I thought I just needed to make some adjustments, and didn't really have a lot of time to spend on it, so ignored the big issues thinking it was error on my part. The pictures are almost always blurred, as the button either doesn't take a picture at all, or waits til I have gotten disgusted and moved it/put it down--very upsetting with a new baby granddaughter, when you want pictures to be INSTANT to capture all of those special toothless grins, 1st smiles, etc. The video does work well, which is what I end up resorting to when I want to capture a moment--or I use my old camera that took a dip in the ocean--yet still works so much better than this. Because I was so happy with the 1st camera, I hate to give a bad rating to the brand/model--either I have a defective item, or I am just stupid--but the 1st one was idiot proof, so I doubt now that it is just me. I am on the site today because I have finally decided it's NOT me, and want to see what the warranty from the company is. Even though the price was reasonable (($99), one should reasonable expect that when one presses the button that the camera will take the picture--which sometimes happens, but usually doesn't. Often I change the setting from "auto" to "scene", which will make it work for a picture or two--but not the INSTANT picture that is wanted, especially with a new baby. I have taken a few great pictures, but if I want to be sure it's dependable, I have to get my old camera, that survived a swim in saltwater, because even though I damaged it--I can still count on it more than this new one.
