I tried an iPhone mapping program but if you lose your data connection it stopped working. Others require downloading state by state maps. Not what I wanted to do. The Nuvi 3597 is Garmin's top of the line model, and the price matches the features. The voice recognition is great, but only works for navigation, and does not always recognize what is said. We miss the unit lock feature (great for preventing access to favorites and other stored data). Navigation is good, but still suffers from the limitations on map data that all GPS units have. Garmin also removed the audio "recalculating" prompt, so unless one is looking at the unit while it recalculates, it is not always obvious when a turn is missed. We are not sure if there is an option to turn the prompt back on. The turn lane feature is great. We also had issues with updates to the unit. We were continually prompted for system updates already installed, and Garmin support basically said to ignore these. Despite these flaws, we would recommend buying if one is looking for a top GPS unit with voice recognition. Yes, I recommend this product Was this review helpful?     |     Report this review
