Review submitted for LG 47G2 47" 1080p 120Hz Edge-lit LED LCD Smart HD TV with Cinema 3D, Google TV (LG47G2)
Pros: Crisp images, 3D feature, Wireless connection, Appearance
Cons: Internet can be slow
Other Comments: Overall, this tv has been awesome. The picture is crisp and beautiful, the sound is decent, and 3D movies look great. It doesn't matter where you sit in a room, (we have the tv in the corner and there are no problems seeing the effects from either couch or love seat)the picture is awesome. The tv itself is pretty sharp looking. Yes, it was expensive, but it also looks it. The nice thing about the silver edge is that when you are watching movies, it doesn't feel like you are watching a movie in a box. We have cream walls and with the lights off, it's like watching a miniature movie screen. There are lots of features on this tv. I'm pretty sure we don't use them all, but what we have, is user friendly. The layout is pretty cool; there are modules on the home page of the tv. One for the tv, one for your apps, one for 3D stuff and one for your favorites. Because it is a google tv, when you turn it on, occassionally, it will start running updates on your apps. This could probably be annoying to some people but it goes as quickly as an update on a phone so it's not overly intrusive. The tv can also be connected to your LAN which is great. We have 3 computers wirelessly hooked up to the tv and we can see all media on those computers on the tv. We use this feature probably more than we use the tv to watch cable. The remote is pretty intuitive but if you have never used a Wii remote, you might be a little confused. Don't worry, it's very easy to get used to. One neat feature of the remote is that there is an option on it where you can click a button and say something like "open google" and it will go to the internet and bring up google. You do have to speak clearly because it can bring up some interesting pages if it hears you wrong. There is also a full qwerty keyboard on the back of the remote so you can use the internet much easier than pointing and clicking for each word. There are a couple of things that could be slightly better; the remote does not have light up buttons or a light to illuminate the keyboard so if you like to watch tv in the dark and decide to use the internet, you won't be able to see what you are typing. Generally, this is ok since you can use the option to speak what you want. Also, the keys are SUPER small. I know it's a remote, but I felt I had to point these things out. Also, the wireless can be slow at times. We've had to reset our connection on a few occassions to get it to work. Not a deal breaker by any means, but if you already have a slow connection, you are going to have the same problems on the tv that you have on your computer. Setup was a little obnoxious because as soon as you turn it on, it needs to be updated. That isn't a problem since it only makes sense but it doesn't give you a loading bar to let you know it's still updating. We got stuck in a loop because we kept trying to bipass that step (since we assumed it was done and it wasn't) so my best advice is to just let it do it's thing. My boyfriend is a programmer and my sister's boyfriend is also in IT and they were both having trouble with the start up because it's easy to assume that you are smarter than the tv and can figure out what the "problem" is. My best advice for this is just wait. It's not just sitting there and doing nothing, it has a process and it will complete it and let you continue. I'm only stressing this so much because 45 minutes of thinking we could work around the setup had us all ready to throw it out the window. In conclusion, we are pretty pleased with our purchase.
