On a D7000 it is effectively 157mm. This fast lens produces great photos with great color, beautiful bokeh and tack sharp images. Though a straight 2.8. The F stop will tighten to some degree as you get closer to your subject. One image of a bee, the leg was in focus yet the rest is blurred. My example is to give you an idea of what is possible with this lens. With this lens I can see the fur on the bee's back along with grains of pollen in flowers. Something I could not capture with any zoom lens I have used. The 1:1 aspect ratio I also find interesting. No magnification and no wide angle. Images are as you see them. Landscape and scenery photos are 1:1 cropped 105mm. The lens is at infinity (3m/10ft). I am unable to zoom into a bird in the tree but if I was able to get close enough to the bird to snap a shot I would see details I could get with no other lens I have used. Situations that I would be carrying a short 50mm or 35mm lens I now have this baby. You can't beat vibration reduction. I don't recommend this lens for going on a date to take hand held self portraits. The lens is too tight at 105mm. A dermatologist may find the skin texture interesting. I am still learning the full potential of this lens. I checked the box: "Best at Macro photography" because that is what this lens does better than any other lens. This lens performs as well as other incredible lenses in most all the check boxes listed in this serve. Taking the serve wording literally, I will say This lens outperforms the others for getting very close to your subject. My photography interest would be under hobby and art.
