Pros: Video upconversion, Power, Sound, Auto Setup, Home Theater Top Pick, Surround Modes, IPhone control, Setup Data to PC, Hdmi inputs, value
Cons: appearence, OSD, Internet Radio, Remote
Other Comments: This is the best AVR in the price range sound wise. The auto speaker setup (MCACC) makes even cheap speakers sound great. The is best as a Function over Form purchase. Home Theater Mag Top Pick at the entry level price point. Bought for $200 below MSRP! Video upconversion works great for all sources. An excellent selection of all the best surround sound formats. Like being able to see the speaker setup data on my PC. Ergonomics are not so great. The on-screen display, remote, & general appearence are the weak points for me. iPhone/iPod control is cool, but the OSD & remote make it ugly & difficult. Internet radio has not been a plus for me yet. Difficult to setup & must be done through network connected PC. Don't use 3D yet.

Review submitted for Pioneer VSX-1020-K A/V Receiver (PRVSX1020K)
Pros: Big sound, Clean crisp design, A lot of value for less
Cons: Set-up rather complex, Poorly designed remote
Other Comments: As a long time Pioneer enthusiast and one who likes to hold on to good equipment (this is only my third Pioneer receiver in 35 years), I find the VSX-1020 my best choice yet. It brings great sound, interface versatility and flexibility at a very reasonable, mid-level price point. Sure, there maybe other higher end A/V receivers with a few more bells and whistles, but Pioneer knows how to deliver exceptional electronics, quality and value in one slick, affordable package. Set-up is rather time consuming and could be more fully and clearly described in the manual, but this type of equipment, serving multiple components and media environments, isn't intended to be just plug & play. Unfortunately, the remote is less successful too and not even "remotely" ergonomic with same shaped buttons and labels too small and closely spaced, etc. Suggest investing in a high quality universal remote if you use this unit with multiple components. Haven't had a chance to put the VSX-1020 through all of its paces, but so far have found it a solid performer; especially using my old, yet still outstanding Pioneer HPM-100 speakers.
