Review submitted for Svat Electronics Web Ready H.264 DVR Security System with 4 Cameras (SVCV500)
Pros: Simple Interface
Cons: Inaccurate instructions
Other Comments: When motion is detected, this system will not do like previous models and email you a .jpg of whatever triggered the alarm. It will only email you a .264 video file that you cannot view as promised on a blackberry Bold. I am an IT professional, so yes, I followed all of the instructions correctly and even installed the app for mobile viewing...nothing. So, you have to log into the user interface through a PC to see the motion event. [...]. The manual is very detailed, but contains errors, even on something as simple as labeling the buttons correctly on the front of the DVR.Motion detection: during daylight hours, good. At night, it logs motion events for every moth that flies in front of it, even on the lowest sensitivity level. I don't know about you, but I don't need 40 emails at night about moths. I just want an email if someone is at the door.I do not recommend this product or this company.

Review submitted for Svat Electronics Web Ready H.264 DVR Security System with 4 Cameras (SVCV500)
Pros: Easy Installation, Easily Understood Instructions, Reliable, Simple Interface
Cons:
Other Comments: I purchased the product to monitor a vacation rental. I struggled between the Defender version and the SVAT version. When looking at the marketing material one would believe the Defender had more features a better interface... this is not the case. Setting up the general features is very easy. While the interface is a little week as long as you follow the instructions carefully you will be fine. Setting up and viewing on you home network is simple and requires barely a basic understanding of the network. Setting up to view over the internet was slightly more difficult. I have FIOS and my router was not listed on the support page. I chose the directions for a Linksys router and was able to figure out the settings on the FIOS router. The picture when viewing on the internet even at the best setting looks like more of a slide show than a video however its prefect for my application. When viewing on a directly attached monitor the picture is perfect. The focal length on the included cameras is ok however if you want to make out a persons face you need to be no more than 10' from the person. I am all ready thinking of replacing on of the cameras with an upgraded one to monitor the parking area. I have not yet tried to set up the automated email however after reviewing the instructions it looks like you would need a fairly good understanding of networks and security to pull it off. I have a Droid so couldn't view on my phone however I will try and set up my wife's Blackberry. Bottom line is that this is a fantastic system with lots of useful functionality. Take into consideration the price a d you can't beat it.
