Verified Purchase Review submitted for Toshiba Satellite 11.6" T215D-S1160RD Notebook PC (TBT215DS1160RD) Pros: Good resolution, Great keyboard, Lightweight Cons: none at this time Other Comments: My daughter will be studying in Paris this coming Spring semester and be attending two different schools. She wanted a lightweight laptop to replace her 15 inch Sony for easier carrying between schools and on the metro. Her first laptop was a Toshiba which she was happy with and experienced no problems. I researched the 10.1 inch netbooks and the extensive reviews. Majority of the reviews suggested to upgrade to Windows 7 Home in place of the Windows 7 Starter and to install at least 2GB of memory to enhance performance and useability. I decided on the 11.6 netbook because it already comes with Windows 7 Home and 2 GB of memory that is upgradable to more. There was very little price difference between the cost of the upgrades to the 10.1 netbooks and the basic 11.6. Plus the advantage of a slightly larger screen. Very impressed with the speed and resolution of it. I loaded Office 2007 and Norton Internet Security 2011 after deleting all of the other non essential programs and running Norton's removal tool because I still had a valid NIS license from a prior 3 PC purchase. My daughter has no problems with having multiple windows opened, able to view whole pages and scrolling in Word. Skype functioned as well if not better than on her 15 in Sony. Had a bit difficulty in connecting with our home wireless but attribute that to being unfamiliar with Windows 7. Signal strength excellent. Best part about Windows 7 is the automatic loading of device drivers. I had an old Canon portable printer IP90v that I used on business travel and was able to have that up and running on her machine with no problem. Battery life is around 4+ hours which is less than the 10.1 netbooks. She likes the full size keyboard and increased the font size and decreased the resolution one notch to make it easier to view printed material. It is a little bit slower on downloads but nothing objectionable and again she is comparing it to her 15 inch Sony. She is not a game player so she uses it mainly for school, skype and facebook and is quite happy with it. Great choice for a netbook. Only reason not rating it 5 stars is she has only used it consistently since Christmas so that has been about 3 weeks of use. It also does not get very warm after long term use. Accepted all my peripherals quickly. Used an external DVD recorder to make backup DVD's prior to using, which turned out to be a simple process. It is cool on the lap compared to my larger HP notebook. I have surfed, played games, opened e-mail, listened to radio, and connected to my LCD TV. Only negative is the volume control and speaker sound but some external mini speakers should help there, if that is important to you. I'm very happy with this purchase.
