Review submitted for Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II LD [IF] SP AF Zoom Lens for Nikon D40 (Built-in Motor) (TM1750XRDINA2)
Pros: Lightweight
Cons: Doesn't Connect Closely, Tough To Attach, Attaching Isn't Clear
Other Comments: I'm not very fond of how the lens attaches to the camera. First off there's no way of telling what to line up to connect it properly. There seems to be a gap between the lens and the body if the camera. I'm not sure if that's how it should be. I haven't had an problem with the lens otherwise .

Review submitted for Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II LD [IF] SP AF Zoom Lens for Nikon D40 (Built-in Motor) (TM1750XRDINA2)
Pros: Nice Bokeh, Easily Interchangeable, Consistent Output
Cons:
Other Comments: This lens is very nice for indoor and low light use. I can consistently take photos inside without a flash, which I really love. The images are pretty sharp and the auto focus works well even if if isn't quite as fast as the Nikon lens. At a fraction of the price for the equivalent Nikon lens, I think it was well worth the price!

4 out of 5 stars   Excellent Lens for a Reasonable Price
By hbva on August 04, 2010
Review submitted for Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II LD [IF] SP AF Zoom Lens for Nikon D40 (Built-in Motor) (TM1750XRDINA2)
Pros: Durable, Consistent Output, Excellent Color rendition, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Easily Interchangeable, Very Sharp
Cons: No Image Stabilization
Other Comments: I've only had this lens for one day; it is now one of six lenses for my Canon EOS 450D, including the bundled 18-55mm f/3.5 lens, which I hardly ever use. I bought the Tamron 17-50 mm lens to fill the wide-angle gap, and I have tested it only indoors thus far. Frankly, its output compares very favorably to all the Canon-branded lenses I own, including the 50mm f/1.4 lens. Contrary to the experience of the other reviewer on this site, images I took with the Tamron lens at both extremes of the zoom range (17mm and 50mm) are sharp wide-open at f:2.8, and tack-sharp at f/3.5. Colors are deep and accurate ... very natural-looking. The motor is definitely there, and it focuses easily, smoothly and, above all, accurately. The lens has a solid feel and appears to be well-constructed. It attaches to my EOS 450D without difficulty. The only shortcoming I find is that image stabilization, which is not available with this lens, would be useful at very slow speeds. I consciously took all the initial test images indoors, without a tripod or other support, and without flash or artificial illumination at 1/50 sec. If there is any blurring, it is not noticeable to me, even after magnifying the images severalfold on the camera's 3" LCD screen and then viewing them on my 23" computer monitor in Photoshop. However, I would not trust myself to shoot free-hand at anything much slower than 1/50 sec. So, all in all, my first impressions are highly positive. I may update this review after more extensive use ... going to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks later this month, so there will be opportunities galore!

2 out of 5 stars   Very Disappointed

Review submitted for Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II LD [IF] SP AF Zoom Lens for Nikon D40 (Built-in Motor) (TM1750XRDINA2)
Pros: Consistent Output, Strong Construction
Cons: Blurry Focus
Other Comments: First, I did not get the new lens with motor, I was sent an old model without the motor. The problem, however, is that the focus or possibly the quality of the glass was not good. All photos, when enlarged 100%, were extremely blurry, very unlike any photos taken with my Nikon lenses. You get what you pay for!
