Review submitted for Tamron SP AF 180mm F3.5 Di 1:1 Macro for Canon (TM18035DIEOS)
Pros: Consistent Output, Strong Construction, Easily Interchangeable, Durable, Lightweight, Rugged
Cons: Slow Focus
Other Comments: I have used the Tamron 180mm Macro just a few times. It appears to be tack sharp on my Canon 7D. I have photographed a ruler at f3.5 and the auto focus is right on the money. The lens primary use is for macro photography so I expected to use manual focus which is great. The auto focus is slow and it will hunt. The focus is either auto or manual with no choice for a combination of auto with manual touch up. There is also no focus limiting switch to limit how far the lens will hunt for auto focus. The auto to manual focus change is with a push/pull of the focus ring. It would have been super if the lens had these features listed above for the same price. It was not a deal killer for me because I intend to use this for Macro photography only. The reviews on this lens showed that is was sharper then the Canon lens and less expensive. Canon has a new feature on the 7D which will take advantage of macro focusing correction if you are using the Canon lens with the USM motor. Example is your own breathing or the wind moving the subject. I do not believe the Tamron will take advantage of this new feature.
