As for practical application, I've run PA's for many years without one and could continue to do so. For someone more technical minded, I've no doubt this could be used as an indicator to calibrate a sound system by inserting a 1K tone in each channel to precisely balance each line. The problem is that the display does not give even a reasonable indication of the actual volume level. It is useless as a vu indicator. What's more, it goes into an annoying demo mode during quiet spaces in music. If you just want lights, this is for you.
