1 out of 5 stars   Technical Pro H1502URI Digital Hybrid 5 Watt Amplifier/Preamp/Tuner USB
June 08, 2014
Review submitted for Technical Pro H1502URBT Digital Hybrid 5 Watt Amplifier/Preamp/Tuner USB and SD Card Inputs (TPHB1502U)
Pros:
Cons: The cooling fan was noisy when first plugged in and the unit failed 5 hours after it was installed. The LCD screen became almost invisible with a distinct electronic burning smell. As the unit was shipped to Canada through a separate shipping system set up by eBay to ship and clear custom fees it was too expensive (2/3 the price of the Technical Pro unit) to ship the unit back as the shipping fees for returns are the responsibility of the receiver. Canadian shipping fees are substantially higher than in the US. We had to take the loss and take the unit in for recycling.

5 out of 5 stars   Technical Pro H1502URI Digital Hybrid Amp
By Pop on February 27, 2014
Review submitted for Technical Pro H1502URBT Digital Hybrid 5 Watt Amplifier/Preamp/Tuner USB and SD Card Inputs (TPHB1502U)
Pros: Exceptional karaoke amp for smaller venues or home use. Crystal clear sound, simple adjustments, plenty of power, easy to master---what can I say. I use it with two Peavey PR12's for home karaoke parties and small venues when a larger more powerful setup is not needed. It's simple to hook up to a karaoke player or computer. The sound will spoil you. Adjustment for different singers is quick and simple. The current models are improved over earlier models I have both, the older one is several years old and does a great job---I love it.
Cons: Microphone settings apply to both mic imputs (volume, treble, bass, echo), not each mic separately. That's really not a problem, just for information.
Other Comments: I wish the same amp was available in a true 1000 watt @8ohm model, same controls etc..
I recommend this product Yes, I recommend this product

4 out of 5 stars   Drives outdoor speakers from iPod / CDs
By Price Conscious on December 11, 2011

Review submitted for Technical Pro H1502URBT Digital Hybrid 5 Watt Amplifier/Preamp/Tuner USB and SD Card Inputs (TPHB1502U)
Pros: PriceFeatures ratio, Easy To Set Up, Good Power Output
Cons:
Other Comments: This replaced and old bookshelf system that sat in the basement entry to the backyard and drove some bose outdoor speakers as well as its own speakers in the basement. The old system became flaky but it had a small CD changer. We had just connected the wires going outside to the terminals of the bookshelf system along with its own speakers. What this receiver/amp added was an MP3 input. And I attached an old DVD 7 disk changer for playing CDs. We use an iPod Touch connected via a cable that goes from docking port to mini because the earphone to mini connection was underpowered. But we are just as likely to listen to radio as the iPod and radio reception is fine, but we are only about 25 miles from NYC so signal is rarely a problem in this area. And we now have an A/B and A+B switch on the speakers for outdoor and basement speaker sets. So, for this purpose and price I would recommend it. Not sure about other uses or its long-term use.

4 out of 5 stars   Always better the second time around

Review submitted for Technical Pro H1502URBT Digital Hybrid 5 Watt Amplifier/Preamp/Tuner USB and SD Card Inputs (TPHB1502U)
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Good Power Output, Accurate Controls
Cons: Ambiguous sound quality
Other Comments: I just purchased my second HB-1502u so obviously, I think it's a great buy. I purchased the first unit because I needed a remote controlled preamp. Starting with the bad things about the receiver, two items: First, the only thing I can say that I truly dislike is that the "spectrum analyzer" light (as confirmed by the manufacturer) is just a random "disco" display. Rest assured, I will either reprogram or disconnect it. Second, the 1500 watt figure is an absolute theoretical maximum (probably requiring both a lightning strike AND a flux capacitor). It's a solid 50w/ch (output transistors spec at 70w) receiver and a great value for the money. And now the good. Although I did not expect it to be very good, for the price, the receiver did not disappoint so I bought a second to get better sound in my family room but it's still in the box... more about that later. The case has excellent build quality and hum/noise is average for a consumer grade receiver at this cost (can't be heard beyond 14" from the speaker. No sane person sits that close). It has mid quality Toshiba output transistors and the horrible sounding and much hated JRC4558 op amp in the preamp but still, it's a wonderful bargain. After break-in (a few days), the amp settled down and became less harsh. THERE ARE NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE SO IF YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO SERVICE ELECTRONICS DON'T DO IT but since I'm a technician, I couldn't resist either voiding the warranty or upgrading to the opa2107 op amp and it transformed this so so receiver into a very good preamp (better than the Adcom GTP-400 it was intended to replace). As for the receiver still in the box, at present, I'm still working out some more mods to the first unit (opa2277 op amp I tried had too much gain but I'll be trying out the AD823 soon) so it stays put until I finish my tweaking. If you're the tech type and want a great bargain in audio, you owe it to yourself to take a look at this receiver. Remember, you get what you pay for. Thanks for reading my review.

Pros: Great Sound Quality, Easy Setup, Good Remote Control, Good Power Output, SWEET, Accurate Controls
Cons: Sd player needs more cmds, Limited Functions
Other Comments: Replaced a 1973 stereo - let's hope this one works as well and as long as the old stereo A great way to melt speakers ! It is all in one..Powerful Amp, SD player, FM and more, all sorts of inputs. The SD player could use more commands, missing random/shuffle.. Good Price for the package
