1 out of 5 stars   ATH-AD700 worst head phones i have ever

Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATATHAD700)
Pros:
Cons: Poor Sound, Flimsy Construction, Poor Value
Other Comments: these head phones right out of the box were trouble.. the plastic holding the cord to the head phone was torn so ended up wire tying them to the head set. the sound was not as good as the ones I was replacing them with. a very old and worn out set of sennheiser HD 485's which I would still be using if not for the fact the ear pads are way beyond shot.. I gave less for them and they had a much richer sound and better base. the audio tech's have less bass and mids. then to rip the hair out of my head when taking them off and the cord from the top to about2 feet is rock hard. and the stress on the cord now has them cutting in and out.. and noisy. I would never buy a pair of these again and there tech department did nothing for me.. all in all I will never trust them or there products again. And I only give one star as it is required that at least one star be give to complete this ratting. but in truth. I would give none at all.

5 out of 5 stars   Amazing

Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATATHAD700)
Pros: Lightweight, Comfortable, Great Sound
Cons:
Other Comments: These headphones simply have amazing sound. The midranges and the soundstage are the best I've heard in a set of headphones. However, the bass is a bit lacking if you are listening to hip-hop but overall the headphones sound incredible. They are extremely lightweight and comfortable. The velour earpads are perfect and the wings actually do improve overall comfort. They can slip off your head more easily than other headphones though. Since these are open air headphones, everyone around you can hear what you are listening to. Therefore, these are not good for portable or work use. I am very happy using these with music, video games, and television.

5 out of 5 stars   All the headphone I need!
By Music lover, not audiophile on August 29, 2011
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATATHAD700)
Pros: Lightweight, Great Sound, Good Value, Comfortable
Cons:
Other Comments: I bought these about a year ago from Beach. Excellent value; some may find them bass-shy, butI find them well balanced. Probably not the bestchoice for small heads; not portable. A headphoneamp is not necessary, but they will bebefit fromgood amplication and sources. Terrific soundstage for phones. All the headphone that I need; I stillmuch prefer loudspeakers, however. Beach Camera isa great place to buy stuff: great prices [...]!

5 out of 5 stars   Great open headphones at a bargain price
By catfan on August 10, 2011

Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATATHAD700)
Pros: Good Bass, Lightweight, Comfortable, Good Value, Great Sound
Cons:
Other Comments: First, if you are unfamiliar with open headphones, be aware of what you are getting. These do not block outside sounds at all (everything sounds exactly the same when wearing them as when not wearing them), and anyone else in the room will hear what you are hearing. The tradeoff for this is a sound that is quite a bit more natural than most closed 'phones can manage, and the AD700s do not disappoint at all in that regard. In particular, the soundstage is huge, and sometimes they really do sound more like listening to great speakers than to headphones. I disagree with reviewers who claim that these lack bass. If you want the kind of visceral slam that a subwoofer can give you, you will need to use a subwoofer. No headphones can give you that (though some closed models can provide a better illusion of it.) If you want to hear all of the sounds that bass instruments make, however, then these deliver in full (including very deep bass such as pipe organs can achieve.) Well recorded material sounds great on these. In fact, I have heard open 'phones at 2 or 3 times the price that did not sound better to me (including Sennheiser HD595 and AKG K701.) Poor recordings, unfortunately, will clearly show all of their flaws. Comfort is quite good for full-sized headphones, though not perfect. The 3D wing system works as advertised, they are fairly light, the velvet earcups are very soft, they don't make the ears warm like some closed headphones can, and there is little clamping force. The downsides are that they tend to slip around quite a bit (the wires can be bent to improve this somewhat), and that the pads press on the ears to some extent rather than going completely around them. On the whole, I would not hesitate to recommend these at the price, and I prefer them to many open 'phones at substantially higher prices. Does this imply that they are my favorite headphones? Well, not quite. That honor goes to Sennheiser HD380s (though those are closed, clamp harder, and cost more than twice as much.)

Pros: Good Value, Lightweight, Great Sound, Comfortable
Cons: Falls Off/Out Of Ear, Too Much Ambient Noise
Other Comments: Sounds good, only limited by my source (laptop). Highly recommended for classical and jazz, but can handle other music with some EQ tweaks to give more bass.

5 out of 5 stars   Musicphile Headphones

Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATATHAD700)
Pros: Good Bass, Soundstage, Great Sound, Imaging, Comfortable, Lightweight, Good Value
Cons:
Other Comments: Was looking for the best sounding budget headphones for quiet home music listening with the following features: 1) full/over ear size, 2) open design, 3) high efficiency so no head amp required, 4) comfortable for extended listening sessions, 5) great sound, especially sound-stage and imaging. After extensive research of internet headphone reviews, I settled on these Audio-Technica ATH AD700 headphones. I am not aware of a better product at it's price point and am very impressed and satisfied. The only way to improve this product would be to make it adjustable for different sized heads, which would also improve fit while moving around during use.

4 out of 5 stars   These headphones are Great!
By Don on January 11, 2011
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATATHAD700)
Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Durable, Good Value, Great Sound
Cons: Too big for small people
Other Comments: If these headphones feel too loose, just connect the head pad assemblies at the top of the phones with a rubber band. Experiment with various rubber bands until you find a fit that's comfortable.

5 out of 5 stars   Headphones With High-End Sound
By Jeff on November 30, 2010

Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATATHAD700)
Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Good Value, Great Sound
Cons: Falls Off/Out Of Ear
Other Comments: These headphones are awesome and for less than a hundred, they're a steal. I would call them entry level high end. Beautiful soundstage and rich, clear sound from top to bottom. Very good detail retrieval. I do turn up the bass on my receiver by one notch only to give the bass a little more presence, but they would sound great without this adjustment. The only drawback, and it is so small and almost unnoticeable if you heard them, is that they are just the slightest bit shy on bass. One quibble about the frame is that they feel to loose on my head and like they going to fall off if I make a quick movement. I used a 6" thin little bungie cord to pull the two ends together, just above the wings, and that works great for me. Highly recommended

4 out of 5 stars   really is an air headphone
By headphonehype on September 30, 2010

Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700 Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATATHAD700)
Pros: Comfortable, Good Value, Lightweight, Great Sound, Durable
Cons: Unattractive Design
Other Comments: The product does what it says. It really light and when listen to music in a quiet setting, the songs and feel of the headphone really is smooth and soothing. This is one of the most comfortable headphone I have ever had, the ear cushion is made of of velvet therefore no sweat build up, and the 3d wings just floats on top of your head. The treble can be bright if volume turn up enough (I ended up listening to it slight below avg.), the bass is there, but very thin and laid back.) The whole frequency are very crisp and detailed. The soundstage is huge and to me depending on what music you listen to this can be a problem. With hip/rap or techno the music can sound too chaotic with the large soundstage. With rock the bass impact is too weak. Beside those genre the headphone should do well. I like the vocal on the headphone also. I didn't like the way how it perform with movie. I thought it lacks the boom and same goes for gaming for me. If you are not looking for boom then these can perform really well for movies and games as you can pin point subject very accurately. Also any con to the headphone is that if you have a small head the headphone will slip off your head. Overall a very good set of headphones. I'm trying to keep it short and get straight to the point. I'm sure you should already know the details from the many reviews these headphone gets since it's a popular headphone, so I figure you just need to read this one to confirm and refine.
