Stereo Condenser Video/Recording Microphone - ATR25 Refurbished ATR6250
(ATR25RB)
Pros: Lifelike Sound, Great Sound Quality, Lightweight
Cons: Nonstandard plug, Breakable Mount
Other Comments: HOW I USE IT: I use this microphone with a netbook computer and a Griffin iMic usb adapter to record friends performing in live piano concerts. I capture and edit with Audacity software.
THE GOOD: While this microphone is not truly professional quality, it is surprisingly good for the price paid. Recordings are quite faithful to the original sound.
NOT SO GOOD: The cable has a nonstandard plug with screw threads to held it securely to the microphone. If you lose this cable, the ones you can buy at Radio Shack will probably not fit. The plastic mount used to attach the microphone to a tripod head is too fragile, and will easily break.
Yes, I recommend this product

Stereo Condenser Video/Recording Microphone - ATR25 Refurbished ATR6250
(ATR25RB)
Pros: Simple Use, Great Sound Quality, Durable
Cons:
Other Comments: I heavily researched mics for use with video, and decided to try the ATR25, partly due to its price point of [$]. I was surprised to find that the mic body is metal, and that the mic-to-camera cable fits snugly and securely into the mic. The sound quality is bright and crisp, and far better than the onboard mics of either my AG-DVC30 or PV-GS150 3-Chip DV-Cams. The ATR25's only flaw is the camera mount, which does not isolate the mic well from camera handling noise. I found several DIY shockmount designs online, and will use my ATR25 in the future with a a shock mount that will clip into the included camera mic clip. I also have an Audio-Technica AT835 shotgun mic, but it has proven to be a bit large for my small DV-Cams. As for battery life, I always use a fresh battery for each mic use, that way I am almost always assured good mic pickup; there is that rare moment when even a fresh battery fails, but it's good to keep a small stash of fresh AA alkalines closeby. I also always use headphones to verify that the mic is working properly. The ATR25 is a very good stereo condenser mic, especially for the price!
