4 out of 5 stars   Professional settings point & shoot size

Review submitted for Canon Powershot SD4000 IS 10.1 MP Digital ELPH Camera (Red) (CNPSSD4000ISR)
Pros: Professional results, Excellent quality, Great setting options
Cons: Short battery life
Other Comments: I would have rated this 5 stars except for the low battery life. It only lasts about 40 minutes before it dies (usually at an inconvenient time). Since it came with the camera I consider it part of the camera as opposed to an accessory. I know that the low battery life and small memory card that come with the camera are sent that way with the purpose of getting the customer to spend more money "upgrading". But if it comes with the camera then I'm rating it as part of the camera. Other than that it's a great little camera with with surprisingly professional setting options for a point and shoot.

Review submitted for Canon Powershot SD4000 IS 10.1 MP Digital ELPH Camera (Red) (CNPSSD4000ISR)
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: I love my camera! I use it for night shots and it works very well! There is no noise or awkward lighting. I love the features that change the colors of the image. One example is taking a photo in black and white and having one pop of color highlighted. The slow motion video recorder is pretty cool, too. This camera is also awesome for extreme close-ups. There is no blurriness.

4 out of 5 stars   Pretty Good For the Price & Size

Review submitted for Canon Powershot SD4000 IS 10.1 MP Digital ELPH Camera (Red) (CNPSSD4000ISR)
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: I bought this camera mostly because you can open the f-stop up to 2.0, meaning better shooting in low light and a shallower depth of field. I used it over several days during a camping trip, mostly shooting video, and I have to say I'm really happy with it. The HD video looks great and the on-camera mic does an amazing job of picking up sound for a camera of this size. There is some great depth of field in my shots too, although sometimes the autofocus would get confused and jump around. I also shot video in several low light situations and was impressed with the almost unnoticeable amount of digital noise. Canon's user interface is my favorite, it's simple enough but has all the buttons you need to access menus quickly. The one design problem I experienced was that the "play" button would be triggered when the camera was in my pocket or holster. I would often pull out my camera to discover that it was on in play mode, which made me worry that my batteries would die prematurely during my camping trip. But I filled up a 4 GB card over four days with the battery still going strong at the end, so that wasn't a problem. The camera body is a little bulky, but that doesn't really bother me. If you're a tiny gadget freak that might annoy you. Bottom line: for the casual photographer who wants a simple camera that they don't have to think about I would probably recommend the Canon sd1400 IS so you save a hundred bucks or so. But if you're a little more into photography this is a great choice, a little closer to an slr than most point and shoots.

Pros: Auto manual control, Sharp large screen, Bright red
Cons: Slippery to hold, Easy to block flash
Other Comments: Had to add some rubber dots to make the camera easier to hold and to prevent my finger from blocking the flash. Hope to use it for indoor parties and fundraisers that are typically low light.
