Then I pushed down very hard and it latched. It has been operating easier the more I use. I like the way it handles frozen items with defrost setting. Other Comments: Like other Cuisinart toasters I had, they don't last. I was willing to try this Cuisinart brand one more time because of the price and I had good experience with other refurbished products. Initially, I was impressed at how even and how fast it toasted, so I ordered a second one as a gift. Exactly after 30 days of light use, the right lever won't latch and would not toast. It was within the 45-day return period but it is not worth returning it and pay for return shipping. I'm waiting for the second toaster to die anytime now!I don't recommend this toaster or this brand! There seem to be no negative review posted here, we'll see if this review gets posted. My longtime toaster finally died and this toaster was exactly what I was looking for. And I even got it for a great price when Buydig had a sale on Cuisinart with a free set of kitchen towels! Cons: I use setting 6 for sourdough toast. So maybe the settings are a little light? Overall doesn't bother me.
