  Terrific Lens By Peggy on June 19, 2015 Review submitted for Nikon AF-S DX Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G Lens - 2200 (NK4028G) Pros: Small Lightweight Easy to use Takes great macro pix Very reasonable cost Excellent use of available light outdoors Cons: None so far Other Comments: This lens simply takes great macro photos; I can't believe it was made for the pro-sumer market! We experimented with supplementary lighting and found that the best pix were invariably captured with available light. Great. I highly recommend it.   Good Subject Lens By waitingforlefty on March 09, 2015 Review submitted for Nikon AF-S DX Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G Lens - 2200 (NK4028G) Pros: I am just getting to know this lens, and find that it occupies a useful space between the 35mm and the 50mm primes, albeit with less low-light capability. The 40mm is a good lens for portraits and a good, general walking-around lens. It's not my favorite prime right now (that would be the "nifty 50"), but a good one to have in your bag, with the usual superior Nikon quality Lightweight and easy to carry. I would give it 3 1/2 stars if I could. Beach Camera's specials (bonus filter pack this time) are great. Cons: Lack of low-light capability. Sometimes "hunts" to focus. The manufacturer has little control over this, but prospective buyers should not be surprised to see some blurry images. In some circumstances it is necessary to use manual focus because the autofocus may select the wrong plane. Also, this is not a zoom lens; the camera must be moved to adjust image size.
