The zoom is long enough to get distance shots or semi-macro without a tripod. The clutter of "stuff" on a fairly tiny body can be challenging for large hands. But the ability to take virtually any kind of automatic or manual shot makes up for that. With Canon's lens and resolution, the next step up has to be an SLR. This camera provides enough image quality to print 16x20 artistic images. And the integration with Canon printers is also an attractive option. The pictures from this camera are the best I have ever taken. This camera rocks. The zoom is amazing. I took pictures of a harvest moon, without a tripod and you can make out the maria. Macro photos of my garden (clowers, bugs) are amazingly vivid. My only complaint is that the flash pops up from an area where I tend to be holding the camera. I'm afraid I will damage it.
