3 out of 5 stars   Excellent Quality, But Slow
By Sony Fan on March 09, 2015
Review submitted for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V WiFi Digital Camera 16 GB and Battery Bundle (E2SNDSCHX50VB)
Pros: The photo quality is among the best I've seen for this size of sensor, and the zoom range is incredibly high for this size of camera. It also seems to be a very well constructed, solid little camera.
Cons: But, it is s-l--o----w. It takes about 2 to 3 seconds between shots, even without the flash.
Other Comments: If photo quality, zoom range, excellent construction and small size are of greatest importance, this is the camera you should buy. Just be aware that you will not be taking multiple pictures if you happen to see Elvis again.

5 out of 5 stars   Awesome Camera

Review submitted for Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX50V 20.4MP Digital Camera (SNDSCHX50VB)
Pros: I have a Sony RX100 which recently was damaged so while getting it repaired, I needed a quick replacement. Was attracted to this camera because it had such an amazing zoom. Well, the zoom is amazing but so is the camera. Crisp, clear photos almost as good as my RX100 and quite honestly. both compete really well with much more expensive "professional" cameras.
Cons:
Other Comments: Incredible quality for the price!

5 out of 5 stars   Lotta Camera in a Little Package
By Miguel de Ozarko on June 04, 2014
Review submitted for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V WiFi Digital Camera 32 GB and Battery Bundle (E3SNDSCHX50VB)
Pros: Great long zoom and image stabilizer, though at maximum zoom, a tripod helps for crispness. I really bought the camera for its program or filter features -- especially Toy Camera (as I am a Holga fan); I love the Pop Color and also the Miniature, but found the Painting-Illustration images not as easy to control as just Photoshopping an image then using Artistic filters. But the camera is compact, solid and after two weeks, great fun.
Cons: Two big disappointments for me, though I was warned in reviews before purchase: 1) totally impossible to see the LCD display on a sunny day -- I may have to rig up some kind of shade. 2) Macro focusing is poor to non-existent, but probably a tradeoff for the long zoom. . . too bad, because those dazzling closeups of bees buzzing flowers will not work on this camera.
Other Comments: I have yet to try the movie functions. . . but look forward to that. My old Nikon coolpix lasted 5 years and became boring, but now I'm excited about photographing again.

5 out of 5 stars   For
By JB on April 22, 2014
Review submitted for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V 20.4 MP 30x Optical Zoom WiFi Digital Camera - OPEN BOX (SNDSCHX50VBOB)
Pros: Lightweight, compact but tons of features. I wanted to be able to override auto and set shutter and f stop. Wifi to upload, pop up flash. Great 1080 video with fantastic wind resistant mic. Beautiful, sharp pics. And the zoom is mind boggling...makes mountains 30 miles away look like they're in your back yard. This is the best little camera I've ever seen or used. Love it!! Also, the Buydig shopping experience was fantastic! I called with a question and got friendly, knowledgeable pro level help. Ended up placing order by phone. Buy this camera from Buydig!
Cons: Could not find one thing to complain about. Even "open box" item was packaged perfectly in original box. Don't forget to buy an SD card and extra battery. Buydig has best prices on those.
Other Comments: Made my first ever online purchase from Buydig 10 years ago. Talk to them by phone and get a real person who has real knowledge. Unbeatable prices, fast shipping, wow!

5 out of 5 stars   This camera is excellent and has all the pro settings you could ever want!
By Rock Legends Photographers on February 20, 2014
Review submitted for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V 20.4 MP 30x Optical Zoom WiFi Digital Camera - OPEN BOX (SNDSCHX50VBOB)
Pros: Fast focus, small, great battery life, superb video, big zoom, great video, easy 1 hand operation, lots of MP, lots of features and effects
Cons: The only 1 I can think of is that the LCD screen scratches very easily. Be sure to get a GLASS screen protector, the film ones come off very easily.
Other Comments: We are professional concert and wedding photographers. We have tried 3 other PnS cameras that were rated very well for low light and they all failed at high shutter speeds. Because they were lower MP the pictures were mostly grainy and unusable. This camera, (although not as good in low light) takes great pictures if you wait until the spotlight is on the artist! I keep this with me for closeups because with my favorite lens on my pro camera I need to be about 15' away to get a face and guitar.

5 out of 5 stars   High MP, zoom and features
By Sunny Day on July 17, 2013
Review submitted for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V WiFi Digital Camera 16 GB and Battery Bundle (E2SNDSCHX50VB)
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: Bought this camera to take on vacation to avoid lugging around traditional bulky camera and accessories. Very pleased with both still pictures and video/audio recording. Camera fits well in pocket or purse. The 30X optical zoom feature is fantastic, quick focus and clear shots even at max zoom. Did not notice any zoom noise on video clip playback. This is a point and shoot camera, no viewfinder, the camera comes with a inital screen brightness setting of medium. To see the screen in daylight conditions, the screen needs to be set to high brightness through the menu. Have to be careful not to inadvertenly press press any control buttons on right hand side of camera during use, but this is a trade off for any compact camera. All in all, a lot of power and features in a compact camera.

5 out of 5 stars   Great, all-purpose camera; Huge 30x zoom

Review submitted for Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX50V 20.4MP Digital Camera (SNDSCHX50VB)
Pros: Great Stabilization, Excellent video, Amazing Zoom, Pocket sized, Handy Viewfinder App
Cons: Screen In Bright Sunlight
Other Comments: I purchased the HX50V as well as the external ECM-XYST1M stereo microphone that mounts/connects via the flash shoe. (The HX50V also accepts the Sony RX1 OLED viewfinder which also mounts/connects via the flash shoe and which matches the price of the HX50V camera itself.) I also downloaded the iPhone PlayMemories Mobile app which connects to the camera via Wi-Fi. My first outing with the camera was at a parade where I was 15-20 feet back from the curb with the HX50V mounted on a carbon fiber monopod extended to about 30" and held aloft. Using the iPhone PlayMemories Mobile app as my viewfinder and controller, I could zoom to a point that appeared as if I were at the front of the crowd, zooming with the app's W-T zoom controller and taking a photo with the app's shutter button. The app places a reduced size image of each photo in your phone's photo album in addition to the image on the camera's SD card. My second outing with the camera was on Cape Cod where the seemingly endless 30x zoom brought distant buildings to full frame while at the wide angle setting the same buildings are hardly visible. And you can take such zoom shots hand held because of the camera's stabilization. But I recommend at least a monopod just in case. My third outing was at a folk festival at an indoor stage where I was seven rows back, though the HX50V's zoom put me in the front row. I used the external ECM-XYST1M stereo mic with stereo mics spread to the maximum 120° and a monopod for support. The resulting AVCHD (.MTS) files played back nicely via the VLC app and looked and sounded excellent. My fourth outing was at the folk festival at an outdoor tented stage where I knew the performer and I was in the front row. I mounted the HX50V on a monopod and used the built-in camera mic for sound. The stage speakers were to my left and right. The picture results under the white tent were were not as vibrant as from the lit indoor stage, but certainly very acceptable. Likewise the sound was a bit more diffuse with some extraneous noises during quiet passages, but still quite nice. I feel that Sony has a winner with the HX50V. One pocketable camera that replaces a bag full of lenses. My Sony NEX 5N has a much bigger APS-C chip, with lower noise and greater possibilities, but the NEX 18-200mm zoom lens (27-300mm equivalent) is heavy and no match for the HX50V with 24-720mm equivalent. The viewing screen on the HX50V is the weak point in that it is nearly impossible to see in bright sunlight. Under bright conditions the choice is to use the iPhone PlayMemories Mobile app as the viewfinder or to purchase the accessory RX1 OLED viewfinder which matches (doubles) the cost of the HX50V. The purchase of the viewfinder may pale in comparison with the cost of the RX1, but its cost is hard to ignore here.
