Hardwiring was not as painful as I thought and took me all but 10 minutes. Another good thing is that buydig sends this unit with the smart cord cig lighter power adapter if you are not incline to hardwire, which from my understanding is normally sold separately. I used the cord for the 1st few days till i had time to hardwire the unit, and now that I did it is so much cleaner and out of site. I really like this setup and the detector Cons: The escort live app is not really all that useful with this detector and from what I have read the latest ver of the app, makes the smartradar dumb. The radar works just fine without it and i'd much radar just use my waze app injunction with the radar. However without the app the lockout are not kept in memory on the unit so if you lockout a false positive and do not have the app at least launch (doesn't have to be in the forefront) then you will get alerted, so you may find yourself having to mute or launch the app. Other Comments: All in all great radar and I an super happy with my purchase and best of all the (low) price I paid here on Buydig. One thing I do have to mention to Buydig if they are reading this is that upon finalizing my order, I was not able to add the square trade protection to my order so i just proceeded on without it, which I would have like to add. Verified Purchase Review submitted for Escort SmartRadar Radar Detector- iPhone Version (0100014-1) (EMES01000141) Pros: Mounting and installation supplies are top notch, detection sensitivity is wonderful, small footprint (won't attract attention behind the mirror), tons of customization from the App (what it is most useful for), very responsive (quick warnings, mute ability is what you expect). Screen is discreet but useful at a glance. Cons: App is a little over the top if you aren't going on long trips. (The Live! app subscription IMO is for the road warrior type.) Other Comments: I purchased this when it was $179 from buydig.com, and I am extremely satisfied. Huge review: The mounting behind the mirror doesn't seem to be an issue, obviously it is no Valentine 1, but it does a very good job. Radar definitely triggers it from behind and I have had multiple scenarios where I have had a chance to test it. I would say it gets around 2/3rd the signal from behind as compared to a head on situation. The other plus is that since it is behind the mirror, it is almost unnoticeable. I would have someone help you mount it so you can have it hide completely behind your mirror. (I did it myself and got lucky and it I forget it is there unless I lean forward. The cord provided gives you a ton of length and if you have a power mirror (I don't) you can wire it in there super nice. Sticky pads are great and they have held up to the Texas heat. I have, on multiple times driving home, had it show a warning while approaching a "T" intersection from more than .25 mile away from an officer who forgot to turn his radar off from a block away from the intersection. Another impressive situation worth note was when I was going up and down hills with the "highway" mode on. It has detected police scanning 2 miles up the road with the signal getting more and more intense on each hill I peak approaching the officer's position. Thoughts on the live app: My only complaint is that the app with Live! is a more than what you need. The app is well done, but I feel it is overkill and distracting. Nothing against Escort, the app is just another distraction on the road and I got tired of using it rather quickly. Another note: The app is free but the subscription is not. tl;dr Great system and quality mounting with a sensitive detector... but the Live! app is meh and I wouldn't pay for the subscription to it. It looks like another oem installed black box by my mirror. It is small enough and doesn't scream radar detector for those looking at it inside or out of the car. Cons: Too small of cord between the black box and display. Should be a couple feet rather than the foot long that came with unit. The escort live service is overrated so just use waze app instead.   Amazing value, range, and features! By Chris on December 03, 2014 Review submitted for Escort SmartRadar Radar Detector- iPhone Version (0100014-1) (EMES01000141) Pros: This little gem performs like a ridiculously high priced custom installed remote unit for a fraction of the price. The Laser and Ka band performance (two most important specs) is beyond excellent. There are reports on forums where this unit will alert before the Beltronics STiR ($1300+ unit)! I've experienced some amazing saves with it and to be able to get this unit under $200 (MSRP was $449 direct from Escort) is just amazing. There simply is not another unit that can come anywhere close to this for the money. Nowhere close. The only issue I've heard of is some of the iPhone models have defective cases. These units come with a standard 1 year warranty and Escort will repair it if yours has a bad case that comes apart. I have the Android model and love it. Buydig and other authorized resellers sold out of the Android units very fast. Even if you don't link this unit to a phone, it's raw performance us much better than units costing more than double. The main benefit of linking it t a phone is to lock out false alerts during your daily local commute and to get shared alerts from Escort Live. It's stealthy tucked away install allows you to leave it hooked up in the car without attracting thieves. Mounting it high on the windshield help give it the phenomenal radar performance and it's LIDAR sensors are the best performing of all Escort units to date, FACT. Cons: NONE. Other Comments: Don't be fooled by the people who say this is a unit designed to be out of mind and out of sight, making it non enthusiast's detector. This is simply not true. I think some of the hard core people are upset that this unit performs so close to the highest end models for a tiny fraction of the price they paid for theirs. I've had all the high end dash mount units except a Max or Max2.. I feel just as safe on my interstate travel routes with this SmartRadar as I did with the RedLine I owned. The only difference is I have much less K band falsing from collision sensors on cars and tractor trailers in traffic while using the SmartRadar. Cons: Escort Live! probably works great, but I'll never know because I'll never use it again. I used it for one day and found out it's constantly trying to poll my gps even when I disable gps on my droid and it drains my battery in about 3-4 hours. I thought I would like having the external mini display so I could hide the radar detector behind my mirror and put the mini display on my dash somewhere. That didn't work because the SmartRadar box doesn't fit behind my mirror and the mini display only has about a 4 inch cord. You can order a new mini display with a 12 ft cord, which I'm sure isn't cheap. The mini display also falls off my mirror because the frame of my mirror is deeper than the offset on the back of the mini display. The voice output telling you which band is detected is useless most of the time for me because I can't hear it over the radio. Good pro reviews on distance when tested. Be careful of reviews of personal experience as some think sighting a cop without radar detected means the device missed. Indeed some officers don't leave radar on constantly. The app features are great showing reported sightings and help fill that gap.   Handy device! I link the detector to my cellphone / the escort app, and use its map to keep an eye out for other users alerts as well. Cons: Sometimes pairing with my cellphone takes a couple of tries. This isnt a big deal, but it could be if it happened while driving. This doesn't impact performance of the detector, just whether or not the alerts show on your cellphone screen. Other Comments: Periodically there are false Laser alerts triggered. This seems to happen around specific cars (infinity) or when driving into the setting / rising sun. This seems to be a normal issue with laser detection as its just light, and if it detects a specific wavelength the alert will sound. Pulled the trigger because the name and the remote display. Had it installed in 30min. Biggest issue was where to put the display, decided to put on the mirror top center. Love escort live, not sure if I'll continue after the year. But love I can view it anytime when others are driving. Considering anther for the wife's car.   Hardware is awesome, software not so much. On a recent road trip it picked up plenty of police on the hunt (K, Ka and Laser). Obviously hard to tell when it didn't pick something up, but from what I could tell it didn't miss anything. - Small sized unit which can be mounted well out of view. No fear of leaving it in the car - Plenty of mounting and installing accessories included. - Install was actually pretty easy. I am usually pretty useless with this stuff, but had it installed and wired into my powered mirror within 15 minutes. - Works without partner app - AutoNoX and Highway modes are very useful to filter out unwanted hits Cons: - Partner app / software that goes on your phone is not the best quality. A bit buggy and hasn't been updated recently. Works well, but definitely can be improved. - If you lockout a particular radar (say your local shops) it will only be silenced when you have the app running - Unless you are running the partner app, can get a bit annoying around town. AutoNoX mode helps, but doesn't solve the K band around shops problem. Other Comments: Overall, very happy with the unit. Pretty sure it already saved me a few tickets, but more importantly made it obvious how many cops there really are cruising around and I have slowed down in general.   Not as discreet as they think By skyrunr on September 03, 2014 Review submitted for Escort SmartRadar Radar Detector- Android Version (0100014-2) (EMES01000142) Pros: - It works pretty well, but overall I was happier with my older Escort detector. - Live network is much more useful than I thought it would be, but there are multiple presses to report a sighting Cons: - Installation was not easy due to my cars tight wiring harness. The tap-in connections are bulky and unsightly on the mirror even when taped up. - A traditional radar detector clipped to the visor can be removed and hidden 100%. (This can be suction cup mounted, but only one suction kit is included and it would be clumsy to remove both quickly.) - There doesn't appear to be a volume control - The display in no-X has too much text which is distracting - Auto-mute doesn't seem to work like my old Escort - I'd like a lot more customization or settings (change sounds) in the app - I'd prefer shorter voice recordings "Ka" instead of "Ka band" as well as "pop" versus "pop radar" - All I want for lighting is a tiny red dot to indicate that it is on, and something that flashes when there is an alert. Other Comments: It is a lot more sensitive than my prior Escort and I get more false grocery readings of automated doors. I like that I can add them to the live map, but generally my phone is doing GPS for directions. I'll have to go back and compare battery life with GPS versus GPS and Live as I don't always plug my phone in while driving. I like the unit for the deal I got on it. But, I'd stick to a traditional unit for convenience and so that you can put it in other vehicles. Ideally, a bluetooth connected (no wires) unit that mounts on the rear-view mirror with a box behind the dash would be the best approach.
