Takes a Pretty Good Picture

FinePix S6800 16 MP 30x Wide Angle Zoom Digital Camera - White
(FJFPS6800W)
Pros: - Inexpensive for camera with large sensor and high zoom
- Takes a decent picture, color is good, stabilization is pretty good
- Takes a decent low-light picture (reason I bought the camera)
- User interface is decent - main modes selected by a dial, "auto" mode is sufficient for most shots
Cons: - Funky manual lens cap: camera can get stuck and unusable if you accidentally try to turn it on with lens cap on. Am afraid some day it will not un-stick, it already has taken several re-starts and lots of jiggering of the zoom to recover.
- Motorized zoom is funky (and noisy in videos). Would rather have a manual zoom, quieter, easier, no motors to break and no battery drain. They over-engineered the zoom with two separate switches to operate it as well.
- LCD display sucks in full sun, as does most any cheap camera's with no viewfinder. I would rather have a viewfinder and no large, exposed screen to scratch up.
- Camera is heavy and pretty bulky.
- Comes with no memory, no case and non-rechargeable batteries, that's an extra expense to consider.
- Even though the sensor is better than most point-and-shoots, bright areas can still burn out and lose detail in outdoor shots (at least in auto-mode)
Other Comments: In this price range this camera is a value if you want a good sensor--as of today anyway (and assuming it won't get stuck in lens cap hell forever)
Yes, I recommend this product
