It will take some time to get acquainted with all the features of the camera, but having only used the automatic setting, zoom, and macro, I am quite pleased. The 40X optical zoom requires a steady hand, even with the image stabilization, and a tripod is almost a must. The macro allows capture of insects on a flower along with lichen photos that approach "art". I'm not thrilled with the software for downloading photos, but that is a minor work around.
