Review submitted for Nikon AF-S FX Full Frame NIKKOR F/4D IF-ED 300mm Fixed Zoom Lens (NK300F4)
Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Strong Construction, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Durable, Consistent Output, Rugged
Cons: A bit heavy but not bad
Other Comments: This is a great prime telephoto lens for those who can't afford the Nikon f2.8 300mm that costs more than four times as much. At f4 this one is only one stop slower but doesn't have VR (vibration reduction). That's why I gave it 4 stars (would have been 4.5 but that wasn't a choice). No VR means a tripod or monopod is useful most of the time but handheld shots in good light are still possible. However, this lens weighs a little more than 3 pounds while the more costly lens is double that. So this one is much easier to carry around all day. Pictures are wonderfully sharp with great bokeh even with a Nikon 1.4 TC attached. The effective length on APS-C sensor cameras such as my D7000 is 450mm and with the teleconverter it's 630mm. A lot of reach for great wildlife photos.
