Other Comments: I purchased this product to replace a different brand that I found was less than adequate for recording meetings. The first use was to record a complete 3 day training conference with over 100 participants. It recorded the lectures clearly, with little background noise, and switching folders was a snap. I had no problems transferring to a PC, converting to MP3 and burning to Disk. Now I can share the conference with those who could not attend. I have used other voice recorders, but, in my opinion, this is the best of the best.

Other Comments: This is a great little unit that records lectures in high quality, provided you set the recording quality to high. You can set to record in mono or stereo with ease. The optional directional mic works well to limit background noise while maintaining sensitivity so nothing is missed. While the WS-500 allows the user to create sub-folders, transfer data files, and even rename recorded files from their home computer, the LCD on the '500 will not display such files and folders. There is no way to customize folder and file names from the WS-500. With that in mind, it works best to download recorded files to your computer and set up folders and files as desired, there. It's a small thing, but the supplied earbuds are only passible. While the sound quality is good, I will be looking for something that fits in my ears without falling out all the time.[...] Bottom line: this is a great unit that serves my purposes very well. Definitely two thumbs up!

It does a beautiful job on low sensitivity and picks up almost no background noise. The MP3 recording capability creates larger files than the default WMA, but I don't have to convert them after the fact for distribution. I highly recommend this recorder family for anyone doing similar recording.
