4 out of 5 stars   Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens
By Mxban4 on June 06, 2014
Review submitted for Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens with Auto Aperture Chip and Removeable Hood for Nikon (ROHD8MN)
Pros: Great little lens, use it all the time and the pictures come out really great. Good colors, love the 180 degree view and it gave a new perspective of viewing nature.
Cons: hard to put it on, don't see a mark where I have to attach it, I have to overexpose the picture .

4 out of 5 stars   Rokinon 8mm F/3.5 lens for Sony A7r
By Ray1940 on June 05, 2014
Review submitted for Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens with Removeable Hood for Sony E-Mount DSLR (HD8M-NEX) (ROHD8MNEX)
Pros: This is a fun lens but I can't see how it could be used in a documentary setting. Like any other fisheye lens, it distorts perspective too much but it is still a lot of fun. The build is high-quality and the pictures are 'sharp', within the constraints inherent to any fisheye lens.
Cons: Hard to 'focus', but this is inherent to any fisheye lens. When I use the Sony's focusing help for manual lenses, almost everything is shown as 'focused'. You might just as well estimate the distance with your own eyes and set it yourself on the lens itself. You need an expensive software like DxO to correct the perspective (somewhat). The publicity was misleading and gave the impression that this was a full-frame lens. It is not. You should set the Sony's sensor to APC-S. If you don't, then you WILL get a picture but with a lot of vigneting.
Other Comments: Delivery was fast and problem-free.

4 out of 5 stars   Great specialty lens
By MJSfoto1956 on June 04, 2014
Review submitted for Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens with Auto Aperture Chip and Removeable Hood for Nikon (ROHD8MN)
Pros: Sharp (especially in the center 75% of the image area), renders a full 180 degrees (circular image area is clipped at the top and bottom on full-frame cameras). Removeable hood allows use with full-frame cameras. Works well with crop-sensor cameras by filling the entire crop-sensor area.
Cons: as you get close to the edges of the image, chromatic aberrations start becoming significant.
Other Comments: This is a specialty lens. I'm very happy with it as I crop the image square then defish to "fill in the corners". Makes for excellent 20"x20" prints from my Nikon D800.

5 out of 5 stars   Ok fun on a full frame body
By aleunge on February 21, 2014
Review submitted for Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens with Removeable Hood for Canon DSLR (HD8M-C) (ROHD8MC)
Pros: - neat lens and effect on a full frame body - still quite fisheye on a cropped body - sharp for its price
Cons: - manual focus - not complete circular fisheye on full frame
Other Comments: I've owned the Zenitar 16mm as well as the Sigma 15mm fisheye and decided to thin down the camera bag with this cheaper replacement. And for the times you need a fisheye for the job, it's absolutely fine. Keeping the Sigma with its AF and higher price tag didn't seem the best for me and with the high mega pixel count on current full frame bodies, images from this 8mm lens can be cropped to show no vignette (like the Zenitar) while still giving the option of a circular fisheye when needed (doing video work is trickier though since you can't simply crop out the black corners so move to a cropped body for video work). Sharpness is good (most fisheyes are) and the fisheye effect is fun. For what it is, it's great. For people who do not rely on or often need a fisheye, it's perfect. And dudes and dudettes, make sure to get the version with a removable hood for full frame bodies unless you want the inside of the hood in your photos :-D

4 out of 5 stars   Great for the price!
By Lola on February 08, 2014
Review submitted for Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens with Removeable Hood for Canon DSLR (HD8M-C) (ROHD8MC)
Pros: The lens is everything I expected and some more. Very well made and images are very good. Just a great deal on a lens you will probably find yourself using more than you thought. Straighten all those curved lines in post for a very natural view or leave as is for an effect. I do prefer this model over the one with the fixed hood as I just upgraded to a FF body. I actually like not having auto exposure. It forces you to think a bit and you will notice that it eventually sinks in. At ISO 100 at 1/100th, in full sun the aperture will be about f11. Open shade 5.6. Just play around with it and with your other lenses you should have a pretty good idea what the aperture and shutter speeds will be in a given lighting situation without the meter. Enjoy!
Cons: None that I have found. Others complain about the lens hood, but it works just fine for me. Four stars only as the IQ probably does not compare with a Canon L series lens, but, hey, look at the price! You will love it!

5 out of 5 stars   Great, fun and inexpensive
By Greg on February 02, 2014
Review submitted for Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens with Removeable Hood for Canon DSLR (HD8M-C) (ROHD8MC)
Pros: I've used this on my 5d mkii and a 70d and while the effects are different on either body the pictures are very interesting. The manual focus works very well and with the short focal difference is only really needed for close ups. Amazing build quality especially for the price.
Cons: It does work better with the crop body over the full frame but I am still very happy to use it with my 5d.
Other Comments: Buy it, you won't regret it.

Review submitted for Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens with Removeable Hood for Canon DSLR (HD8M-C) (ROHD8MC)
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: Although it is well disclosed, it must be noted again that this is a completely manual lens; your camera can likely meter through it - but that is all. It is otherwise inexpensive enough (at the price I paid) to have in your kit for the rare appropriate use, and simply to play with otherwise. It is nicely built and seems decently sharp. It is difficult to focus visually so, unless you are controlling your focus from a computer or phone, you will usually rely on the lens' distance scale to approximate focus which, given the detail compression, works well enough. I have not assessed the accuracy of the scale as yet. The distorion (curvature of all straight lines not passing through the image center) is apparent but that is part of its fun. No filter will cover the highly convex front element, so care must be taken not to touch it - or risk the possible deterioration accompanying manual cleaning. The lens cap and removable hood are well designed to help you there. Also note that this lens provides 180 degree coverage only if your crop factor is 1.5, i.e., Nikon crop sensor users; Canon crop sensor users get only about 160 degrees of coverage. Based on my current experience to date, the lens lost a star only for failing to comunicate with the camera, not for any inherent failure of quality.
