105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Nikon F-Mount DSLR Cameras 258-306
(SG105F28OSNA)
Pros: Is sharp at wide open with little CA, sharper than the Tamron 90vc f017 (new version) it has replaced. Very solid piece of lens and you can feel it. AF is fast and accurate at normal to macro distances. Nailing the focus at any of the macro shooting distances isn't a problem at all. However, shooting at moving things at a distance can be tricky. I won't say I have nailed every shot. This generally happens at wide open. I was using it to shoot bike races and really push the lens AF to its limit. Is doable for sports photography but it depends on what sports. The OS is sufficient. Here, I think Tamron is better.
Cons: Not so much of a con but the AF may not be fast and accurate for sports photography. It can be done but don't expect to get a lot of keepers. Maybe 50% to 60%. Shooting at normal moving, predictable subjects is doable.
