5 out of 5 stars   BDV-E580
By pete on April 21, 2012
Review submitted for Sony BDVE580 - Blu-Ray Home Theater System (SNBDVE580)
Pros: Intuitive Controls, Easy To Set Up, User Interface, All in one solution
Cons:
Other Comments: Buydig offered a great price, I picked the E580 having two older Sony E570 units. The newer is essentially the same (has built in WiFi) and was the main reason I picked it up. As others written, it's an easy hook up with color coding and step by step diagram. Sound volume is very good for "smaller" rooms and the unit overall is a nice "one pc" solution. Since I have the older e570s, it offered a common set up in different rooms that makes it easy for my kids and wife, common navigation of the controls. The units have a nice interface, streaming video and radio work very well and one niche/gimmick item on the Sony is their "party" mode where you can sync multiple units together streaming the same music, handy for parties. In looking at other "all in one" manufacturers, it seemed that for similar features and quality, they ran a few hundred more. My only personal dislike, while it looks nice is the angled front display. When sitting, one can not readily see the display. Not a major issue as setting changes get displayed on screen, but I like seeing the units settings without having to hit the remote, the older e570 had a flat face. If one doesn't need WiFi, "party" mode, slightly smaller speakers and on a tighter budget, one may wish to compare it to the e390 or e280. I considered the 280 but didn't wish to hardwire internet, so adding WiFi placed it close to the e580 price which with slighter better features, made my choice easy.

Review submitted for Sony BDVE580 - Blu-Ray Home Theater System (SNBDVE580)
Pros: Lots of options, Intuitive Controls, Interfaces Well With TV, Clear Sound, Easy To Set Up
Cons: Lacks a bluetooth remote
Other Comments: I was a little skeptical at first as I've never bought anything from buydig and the price for this unit was about $100 cheaper than everywhere else. But I was pleasantly surprised when I receive the unit as advertized and included both part 1 and part 2 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows in 2D and 3D versions along with downloads for two other Harry Potter movies. Now about the unit, the setup was fairly easy and the units interface is a lot like the PS3 interface. All the speaker connections are color coded. Lots of options to set for it such as inputs, sound quality, picture quality, netflix, and the download of other services. I watched the 2 Harry Potter movies through my HTPC connected to this audio system and it sounds really good. I have my HTPC software set to pass-through the audio uncompressed to the receiver for maximum sound quality and it really does sound good. I originally had PowerDVD 11 decoding the blue-ray audio and it sounded good, but once I allowed the audio receiver to do its job and pass through the audio it sounded a lot better. The speakers come with plenty of wiring to accommodate most rooms. The speakers are fairly small sized, but they sound really good. As others have mentioned, the sub-woofer is good, but doesn't put out thunderous bass. I haven't tried turning the bass up all the way so I haven't really validated that. My current setup includes my HTPC connected to HDMI1, PS3 connected to HDMI2, and my TV connected to HDMI out with RCA audio fed back to the receiver for TV audio (my cable box only has a coax line connected to my TV so my cable TV audio options are limited). All in all, I am really pleased with this audio system and you really can't beat it for the price and the many options and functionality it has.

1 out of 5 stars   Froze up second day
By Joe T. on December 29, 2011
Review submitted for Sony BDVE580 - Blu-Ray Home Theater System (SNBDVE580)
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: Worked great out of the box. The second day I upgraded the software via the wi-fi option. It locked up and would not respond. Sony customer service was terrible and after an hour they told me the problem was internal and I would have to send it in to have it repaired. Called buydig.com and I've got another one on the way. Hopefully just a lemon but I've seen similar issues in other reviews.
