Review submitted for Sony MZM200 MiniDisc Recorder with Microphone and Remote (SNMZM200)
Pros: Excellent Sound, Low Distortion, Powerful
Cons: Poor Quality Construction
Other Comments: How I use the product: I used to burn my CDs to an MP3 player, but I have been transfer my music through an optical cable and the sound is so much better. This is my second Hi MD, (the other one I had for 5 years but sadly came to the end of its life. I also use this device for music lessons and creating my own music through the supplied microphone. Things that aren't so great about it: Its very fragile, for example, the hinges and separate pieces are not aligned. The usb port is crooked. Sometimes the volume would go up and down by itself. If it wasn't for the fragile construction and malfunctions I would give it 5 stars.

Review submitted for Sony MZM200 MiniDisc Recorder with Microphone and Remote (SNMZM200)
Pros: Excellent Sound, Low Distortion, Powerful, Versatile
Cons: Difficult To Use, Poor Quality Construction
Other Comments: Recntly I purchased the new Sony MZM200. When I first opened the package I noticed the quality, the recorder was poorly constructed, for example the case had a lot of cosmetic flaws. Later I tested the minidisc. For some reason the volume on the remote automatically increased without operating any functions. Battery power is OK but not like the 34 hours on my MZM10 The MZM200 only delivers 19 hours on HI-LP and thats what I use this designation as the default my recordings. I also have owned the MZM10 for 5 years and this recorder had no major flaws I could think of, even after dropping the recorder on a hard gym floor. It is easier to use and less time consuming when entering letters for tracks or groups. The display/menu and volume button on the MZM200 is difficult to use and very small so I recommend using the supplied remote to play and using the settings. In comparison to my older recorder the are also more wires, more clutter such as two parts for the AC adapter, such as the usb connector to the actual charger. (The USB is used for sonic stage and charging by the computer. External parts seem to bunch together: the earphones, the wired remote and the power adapter so be careful while recording! Pros: The sound quality was superb for me even on the Hi-LP mode especially when using better quality earbuds sound quality seems to be better than my MZM10, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I completed a few test recordings. I focused on birds chirping and raindrops. The playback was very accurate and precise. Good for relaxation. I couldn't tell if I was listening to the recorded environment on the recorder or outside. I haven't used sonic stage yet, but I heard there were some issues with the software. If is wasn't for the quality construction, I'd probably give it 5 stars. I would also recommend buying MZM200 with some discretion be careful not to drop the recorder. When using this as a field recorder or listening while exercising, keep it in a safe place such as the supplied pouch or a minidisc player case.
