Review submitted for Svat Electronics 4 Channel Smart Phone Compatible H.264 DVR Security System with 4 Cameras (SVCV5024CH)
Pros: Sensitive, Discreet, Easy To Set Up, Compact, Accurate
Cons: None so far
Other Comments: Easy to setup and install. Sleek looking DVR. Enough wire to run all around the home. Unbeatable price and affordable. Beachcamera is BBB accredited. Add a good size yard sign around your home to deter unwanted activity. 100% satisfied. Have not yet connected to internet but have read the instructions and don't seem to think there would be any problems. A must have system!

Pros: Compact, Sensitive, Discreet, Works As Advertised, Easy To Set Up
Cons: None
Other Comments: This is a great system. I would recommend it to anyone. I personally had no need for more than four cameras as a correct install will cover all four corners of your home, front and back.[...]*Accessories:This kit comes with everything you need (I.e., instruction manual, software, mounting hardware which includes brackets for each camera and screws, plus it comes with four 60 ft cables, which should be enough for most applications. You can go to [...] and purchase a four pack of extension cables for around $40.00. You can purchase these in SVAT or DEFENDER brand (Defender cables are black). These are 4-pin DIN cables.*First Impression:I was very impressed with the way this product was put together, the quality of the manual (was very easy to follow as well), and the 24/7 support that was offered. I think I can confidently say that anyone could put this system together (physically), without using the manual; HOWEVER, be sure you plug the right power cable into the right unit. I almost plugged the CAMERA power supply cube into the DVR, but the nice folks at SVAT labeled each cable with where it should plug in, so I caught myself in the nick of time! I know... I'm a big dumby.Setup:Setup was very easy. The difficult part, for me, was drilling thru the foundation, mounting electrical PVC on the block and running that underground and up the brickwork. I did this so the cables couldn't be tampered with and to give it a neater appearance outside. The most challenging part was running the cables under my soffit to conceal the wiring. BE SURE YOU HAVE SOMEONE ELSE HOLDING THE LADDER. It's nice to know that someone else can dial 911 should you fall. ;-)Programming:I will have to say that programming this system was extremely easy, for the most part. It does take some technical knowledge of routers and how to set up port forwarding in your router if you want to be able to access the DVR remotely over the web. I am able to access the DVR from work via Internet Explorer, or via my BlackBerry in live mode. Viewing the DVR cameras from your BlackBerry isn't fantastic as you get screen flicker (this is due to buffering over a cell network), but it is still very clear and especially when you go with 'full screen'. As for viewing over the web, you can choose to view the DVR footage via 'LAN' selection, which gives more clear picture, or via 'Internet' which is a bit fuzzier, but still good quality. You can only view live footage from the BlackBerry, but accessing the DVR from the web allows you to view real time footage and pre-recorded footage. My Favorite Features:I will have to say that the motion-detection is the best part of this whole thing. Instead of me wasting time looking through all the footage at the end of each day, I can view only the items flagged as 'alarm'. This means I can view all footage where movemenet is detected. I am still tweaking the sensitivity of the motion detection, but so far I have already caught someone doing something at my residence on the DVR because of the alarm helping out. You won't regret using this feature, I promise! Side note: Be sure to remove any waiving flags or moving plant foliage or change where the camera points so you don't get false positives. You can even select which part of the screen you want the camera to detect motion on, and this does help considerably. I was able to exclude one moving branch and one tree that bends quite often with the wind.Support:While SVAT's support is knowledgeable, I would go with emailing them before calling. You will be told that you are number 1 in queue when you call, but I have waited between 10-30 minutes to get hold of someone. This isn't a big deal as the questions I had to ask were trivial, and I was able to find the answers out on my own, but if you need help with a question asap, be sure to try emailing them first. You will get an auto-response message initially, and someone WILL call you back same day, so long as it is between 8-5pm. SVAT's support isn't really 24/7, but it's better than most competitor support.Helpful tip:I plan on purchasing a much more powerful camera to work with the SVAT wiring I installed; however, most cameras out there include two seperate cables (one for power and one for video feed). If you find yourself in the same situation and don't want to run all new wiring for the one or two better quality cameras you want to install, fear not. Lorex' website offers 4-pin din to power/video converters for around $12.00 a piece!Would I recommend this sytem to a friend?He11 yes! I already have and some of my friends are planning on purchasing the same model. One small downer:Buy Dig's site incorrectly advertises this sytem as including 8 cameras; however, it only includes the four.
