Pros: High Capacity
Cons: Difficult To Use, Unreliable
Other Comments: Had the idea of using the router for backup and storage for two (2) PC's. When I inserted the CD for setup and saw graphic box's with no text inside (get started guide you get with the unit shows text inside) I knew I was in trouble. [...]

4 out of 5 stars   Awesome!

Review submitted for Western Digital My Book World Edition 1TB Network Attached Storage (WDH1NC10000N) (WDH1NC10000N)
Pros: Easy to use, Quiet, Attractive Design, High Capacity
Cons: Challenging setup
Other Comments: I bought two of these: one for work; and one for home. Once I discarded the enclosed CD and figured out how to map the network drive using Windows' built-in software, they've been awesome! They make backing up, sharing, synchronizing, and streaming a snap! No multi-computer home or office should be without one. And you can't beat the price. I highly recommend this drive to anyone.

2 out of 5 stars   WD Recognize will not recognize the HD
By Paul on December 06, 2010

Review submitted for Western Digital My Book World Edition 1TB Network Attached Storage (WDH1NC10000N) (WDH1NC10000N)
Pros: Attractive Design, High Capacity, Quiet
Cons: Not recognized by compute, Difficult To Use
Other Comments: Can't get the WD supplied program to allow the computers to recognize the network hard drive. WD program indicates it can not fine the HD. "My Computer" program's "My Network Places" sees the files on the HD and can quickly transfer files both ways. Need the WD program to recognize the HD inorder to have the WD autosave program to work. Email to WD has not been answered.

4 out of 5 stars   Adapts well to a streaming home network

Review submitted for Western Digital My Book World Edition 1TB Network Attached Storage (WDH1NC10000N) (WDH1NC10000N)
Pros: High Capacity, Quiet
Cons:
Other Comments: A small, quiet box that replaced my need for an entire computer to be running almost all day. It is faster that the 10/100 Enet on the old computer but not as fast as it should be with its gigabit interface. User interface menus are not as informative as they could be when trying to find a specific function. This product was released in 2009, newer products may be better but all in all a good product for the home network marketplace. Price is decent considering the storage and functionality. Best Thing... Tech support from WD was excellent! Good tech support is almost non-existent in these days of overseas help desks.

4 out of 5 stars   Good hardware, bad software, bad support
By Harry on June 20, 2010

Review submitted for Western Digital My Book World Edition 1TB Network Attached Storage (WDH1NC10000N) (WDH1NC10000N)
Pros: Easy to use, High Capacity, Quiet
Cons: Very bad software support
Other Comments: As a hardware product, the MyBook World Edition is great. But the software supplied by WD doesn't work -- won't "discover" the disk on my LAN, and hence the backup software that is provided "free" with WD disks wants to function in a 30-day trial mode only until you pay $29.95. After many hours of reading the forums, playing with the firewall settings and router settings, etc., I was able to manually assign the drive on each computer on my LAN, then get the backup software to operate with that new drive. Hardly the automatic process touted in the marketing. Two levels of technical support didn't have any answer for why the software would not discover the WD disk -- they even got snotty about why I cared. I also had to download a newer version of the Backup software since the version that came with the unit on the CD was out of date, but that didn't happen automatically either, but it did fix the 30-day trial issue. Overall, now that it's up and running, it seems to perform nicely, but I probably spent 10 hours fiddling with the thing. And it's a little slow -- if you set the software to backup your Outlook mail history (about 5GB in my case), it will run all day every day, in the background. So I gave up on Outlook backups; it would be nice if there were a once-a-week option for certain files, but I haven't found that yet.

Pros: Portable, Quiet, Easy to use, High Capacity
Cons: No Power Switch
Other Comments: The WD Network drive works fine. But, the backup software - I cannot find a way to schedule the full system backups. They seem to run whenever they want which can conflict with my use as it really slows down the computer.

Pros: Easy To Set Up, Easy to use, Compact, High Capacity, Quiet
Cons:
Other Comments: I use it as a media file server in my home theater. It does everything that I would hope for it to do and it is easy to use. I don't like its bright light. After I disabled it in the control panel it came back on days later and I had to disable it again.

Pros: Quiet, Easy To Set Up, Attractive Design, Portable, Easy to use, High Capacity
Cons:
Other Comments: I set this up to store music so that anyone in the house can share. So far it seems to work fine. One PC can not access the music through iTunes for reasons i can not figure out, and the WD support site has been no help. But I do not know if the problem is with the WD drive or the PC. All in all this was a worthwhile purchase.
