I put a ball head with removable mounting plate on top of this monopod so the SLR camera can be pointed a different direction than perpendicular to the monopod. It is tall enough that that I can raise the height above my eye level when pointing the camera up. For the price, I am surprised at how steady it is. The bottom extension (smallest shaft) has a tendency to wobble a bit at the friction joint when fully extended. To counter act this, I only extend the bottom section about 3/5 of the way open which still leaves me some extension at the top section to fine tune the height. This particular one seems to best fit what.i needed, hench the purchased by me. The monopod was flimpsy, weak, cheap. Frustrating on trying to get the height you want and when you are about to take the shot.... It already creep down. The strap came off the first minute you take it out of the bag. Seems it was held by cheap glue. It said it was heavy duty...my t2i with flash seems to be too much for it. Emailed the company that sold me and they said that all of them are the same...
