DIGIC 4 Image Processor has evolved Face Detection Technology that tracks the faces of moving subjects and lets the shooter enter the frame seamlessly with the Face Detection Self-timer.Canon's most advanced image processor, DIGIC 4, delivers evolved Face Detection Technology that keeps every face in every photo looking its very best. The technology finds and tracks the faces of moving subjects until you're ready to shoot, then delivers perfect focus. In addition, exposure, flash and white balance are compensated, so that faces exhibit natural skin tones and backgrounds are properly exposed.
iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.
A Face Detection Self-timer automatically detects an increase in the number of faces and makes the appropriate adjustments. For instance, to include the photographer's face in a group shot, there's no need to rush in. Just put the camera on a stand or tripod, specify Face Detection Self-timer, and the camera will wait for the photographer's face to get on-camera before it takes the shot. Motion Detection tracks moving subjects in a much larger range, and the Servo AF retains focus on a moving subject after the shutter button is pressed halfway - allowing you to wait for the perfect shot without refocusing.
Intelligent Contrast CorrectionDIGIC 4 also makes possible the i-Contrast (Intelligent Contrast Correction) system, which controls the compensation level in pixel units to brighten dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for better images where the main subject is dark, and more natural transition. The PowerShot D10 IS Digital ELPH can even use i-Contrast in playback mode to adjust images that were shot without the setting activated.
Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures.1) Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken.2) The PowerShot D10 IS Digital ELPH can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback.3) You can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.
Life doesn't give you second chances to capture special times. That's why the PowerShot D10 IS Digital ELPH features an ISO 1600 setting that reduces the effects of camera shake and sharpens subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility. ISO can be expanded to 3200 when you select ISO 3200 Special Scene mode.
12.1 Megapixels for amazing resolution and editing, plus 3x Optical Zoom lens with Optical Image Stabilizer. With the PowerShot D10, dramatic, personal pictures have never been easier to shoot and share. This 12.1-megapixel camera lets you create impressively large photos of family and friends you'll be proud to display. The high-resolution images taken by the D10 can be enlarged up to 13" x 19". The PowerShot D10 has a 3x optical zoom that gives you the power to shoot distant subjects with razor-sharp precision and stunning lifelike color.
The PowerShot D10 is equipped with Canon's acclaimed Optical Image Stabilizer Technology that automatically detects and corrects camera shake - one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. Even when zoomed in, you can get the steady, crisp, brilliant images you'll be proud to shoot and share. And Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer Technology is so convenient to use. It functions perfectly with or without a flash.
Blink Detection alerts a shooter after a shot has been taken that a subject has closed eyes.Nothing ruins a great picture more than having your subjects' eyes closed. That's why the PowerShot D10 is equipped with Blink Detection. If closed eyes are detected, a "blink warning" icon appears for 3 seconds, allowing you to re-take the shot before your subject or subjects move on. Blink Detection provides you with extra assurance when capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments like planting the flag at the summit of the mountain.
Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper settings for the camera based on 18 predefined shooting situations.Just set the Canon PowerShot D10 to Smart AUTO and you're ready for maximum enjoyment from your picture taking every time. I had a vacation planned to the Galapagos Islands and wanted a camera to use for snorkeling. I have never been satisfied with the single use underwater cameras and I did not want to buy a housing for my more expensive camera. The reviews favored this point and shoot Canon camera and on paper I liked what I read. It was more expensive than I wanted to spend but I thought it would be a good all-in-one travel camera. My experience using it was mixed. PROS: I was able to use it snorkeling and in the rain/heavy mist situations without concern about the wetness. It was easy to use and has both program mode and many scene settings. I love Canon quality images.CONS: It is a bit bulky for a point and shoot camera and without a lens cap it needed constant cleaning even though I kept it in a camera case most of the time. I ruined several images before I learned that lesson. The zoom is very limited and I had hoped that the large file sizes would compensate by allowing adequate digital options (in the camera or when processing) but I was still disappointed. Extra zoom would have made it even more bulky, but I was not completely satisfied with the tele-converter options or using the digital zoom feature. OK but just not the same. When I travel, I like using a view finder to extend battery life or to see better in glare. That was not available with this camera. I needed a fully charged spare battery every day. I missed having control over setting shutter speed for action pictures and taking pictures from moving cars/buses/boats. I was able to compensate by manipulating the ISO speed but I was guessing rather than feeling confident in knowing I had the right settings. Finally, it is very difficult to get any quality underwater images due to the movement of the photographer and the subject. I was able to capture only a few good images despite dozens of attempts and they were only satisfactory with the help of Photoshop. Anything more than 6 feet away was useless. Using the flash underwater created more image problems than not using the flash. OVERALL: It is a good camera for taking on outings where I don't want to risk dropping or getting my better camera wet ... snorkeling, kayaking, hiking ... and knowing that I will not have the zoom features that I really, really enjoy in my other cameras.

Best in Class:Underwater camera/video
By Snorkel Mom

We vacation in the carribean every spring and love to take our girls out snorkling. This Canon was the third camera of this type I have purchased for this use, underwater photography and video. My 1st 2 were the Olypus Tough which both ended up getting water inside the housing. This Canon was hands down better at capturing awesome video and stills, with better picture quality. The fact that there is no motor involved to open and close the lens seems to also be a big benefit. At the under $300 price point, no need for waterproof housing, great picture quality and small size, this is my new always with me camera and I never miss anything!
I would definitely buy this camera again

About Me Semi-Pro Photographer
This camera was wonderful in and out of the water. I bought it specifically for a trip to Mexico. I snorkled and swam in the pool with my camera and the photos were crystal clear. The really surprising feature was the zoom lens. My photos were clear without worrying about using a tripod. I highly recommend this camera.
So far, so good

Decent rugged camera
from Alhambra, CA
I take the camera canyoneering, which involves a lot of jostling and full immersion. The lens sticking out the front tends to get knocked around a lot because it sticks out, so that's less than ideal. Picture quality is usually good; not always good with large areas that are dimly lit (deep slot canyons) if the camera isn't held steady, but consistently decent for most other things. The time between pressing the power button and being able to take a picture is very small and extremely nice for being able to snag those unexpectedly good photo moments when the camera isn't out yet. However, the time between pictures seems very long; perhaps even longer than the time it takes the camera to turn on and take the first picture -- this is using the same memory card that I used in my Lumix TS1. Canon's customer support is excellent. Overall, I'm happy I bought this camera.
Had to have it again!

Fantastic camera! While some of the controls are confusing, it doesn't take long to be able to understand the basics. Excellent pictures even with the digital zoom. I've compared my shots with those of a friend with another Canon and mine are far superior. Low light (without flash, like a picture of the moon) produces fuzzy shots, unless a tripod is used. Terrific underwater! Love this camera. I owned it before buying this one from buydig, but it got stolen and I wouldn't even consider buying something different!
