Comments about Olympus PEN E-PL1 with 14-42mm Lens Digital SLR Kit (Black):
Love taking photos for fun. Wanted smaller nice camera without lugging SLR around but also have the ability to switch lenses if I wanted. The size and weight is perfect for running around. The portrait setting is stunning! I find I use the auto mode the most but there is so much there to use if you have the patience.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I'm only starting to get into photography but I checked this camera out with some pros before and after my purchase and even they love it and are amazed at the price!

Outstanding Jpeg quality- The focus is decent fast make sure the firmware is up to date. The build quality is good but not as Iron Clad as the Pen 1 (which is higher priced 3/4 sytem)

You won't ask for more after having this

It is the best camera I've ever used. I have other point and shoot and a D40. This is the best one. The quality is great and I like the art filter. It's the best deal with that price and that size.
Great camera, once you know the limits

This camera was a replacement for a Panasonic DMC-TS2, which was a great outdoor camera but suffered from slow focusing and poor low-light performance inside. Since my wife is a preschool teacher, she wanted to capture bright, clear photos of the children in their environment. The E-PL1 is a good compromise between size and performance. We are lucky that our school faces South and is fairly bright, because the focus speed is a bit better in brighter situations with this camera. Because it uses contrast detection as the focus method, it really isn't much faster to focus than a regular point-and-shoot, but if you take the time to compose and pre-focus, the pictures are absolutely fabulous. My wife is thrilled with the quality, even compared to a neighbor's DSLR that we borrowed for a week.As much as we wanted a full-sized DSLR because of the focus speed, we knew we wouldn't take it with us when it wasn't being used for the school... and no camera = no photos. This camera represents the best compromise right now, along with the Panasonic GF1. We picked the Olympus because of the image stabilization and the cheaper price. As long as you know the cons are acceptable for what you're photographing, I'd highly recommend this camera!
I like this little camera.

About Me Pro Photographer
If you take the time to adjust to the camera it becomes very easy to use and gives great results. If you expect the camera to adjust to you, you'll lose the fight. It's not like any other type of camera. I would not use it on a pro shoot. But it will give you pro results.

I do a lot of outdoor photography I love to shoot flowers, wildlife, I will be taking it on vacation, the reason I wanted it was the size, I was tired lugging around all the heavy equipment with the other dslr I had, The size is what sold me, the only thing that is not so good battery life is short, so my suggestion is buy some extra batteries.
Great deal on a great camera

I got this camera in a kit that included a lens from a sale I found on [@]. I'd been wanting a good DSLR and was pretty much sold when I saw the commercial for the Olympus Pen on TV.

Great addition to the Pen lineup
from Twin Cities, Minnesota
I own 2 Pentax DSLRs and this E-pl1 replaced my Panasonic GF1. I find the image stabilization built into the camera body a crutial difference when using legacy Pentax lenses on micro 4/3 cameras, and it does not disapoint in this area. So far I have used it with my manual focus macro lens, out with the kit lens over the holiday shooting video and stills of fireworks and other 4th festivities, and it has performed very well. Although aimed at point & shoot upgraders, I have found that once you set the camera to your liking, the settings are very user customizable and buttons can be configured to your own personal preferences, key to having a great user experience. I find the e-pl1 to be a great compliment to my larger DSLR cameras and lenses, and often find this is the only camera I take with me!
