Panasonic's DMC-TZ1 packs a powerful 10X zoom into a compact body that fits nicely in the palm of your hand. With a winning combination of renowned Leica optics, and Panasonic's sophisticated image stabilization. This camera's precision lens renders superb detail. The image stabilizer ensures that your shots aren't blurred by camera shake. Built-in sensors detect camera movement and shift the lens to compensate, keeping your pictures steady. Plus you can count on sharp, in-focus photos every time, thanks to a responsive, high-speed autofocus system.

The DMC-TZ1 is packed with other picture-taking conveniences, too. The camera features Panasonic's latest image processor for fast start-up time, blazing three-frame-per-second burst shooting, and vivid, true-to life colors. A bright, high-resolution 2 1/2" LCD screen makes composing and viewing your images simple. Plus there are plenty of pre-set scene modes, including High Sensitivity (great for shooting indoors without a flash), Fireworks, and Baby. In each mode, the camera automatically optimizes its settings to help you get the perfect shot.

World Smallest Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom / LEICA DC Lens
The DMC-TZ1 is equipped with a 10x optical zoom (equivalent to a 35mm-350mm zoom on a 35mm film camera) lens in a compact, easy-to-carry body. This powerful zoom lets you easily capture and magnify subjects in distant locations, and also produces impressive photos with soft-focused backgrounds. The zoom lens crystallizes Panasonic?s optics technology, using 3 aspherical lenses to achieve compactness and boost optical performance.
The 10x zoom ratio can be extended up to 12.5x in 3-Megapixel image recording mode with minimal deterioration, by intentionally using the central part of the CCD. This powerful zooming function allows you not only to easily capture and magnify subjects in distant locations, but also to take impressionable photos with soft-focused backgrounds.

World's First Integration of a Retractable Lens System with Folded Optics Technology
The lens part of the TZ1 features the world's first integration of a retractable lens system with folded optics technology realized by the inclusion of a prism. It also incorporates three aspherical lenses, the crystallization of Panasonic optics technology, all resulting in an amazingly powerful 10x optical zoom LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens contained within a compact body.

LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT Lens
The LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens inherits both its name and its outstanding quality from the Leica Elmarit lens, renowned in the film camera world for its superb performance and compact size. Equivalent to a 35mm - 350mm lens on a 35mm camera, this lens is small and lightweight yet achieves the fine rendering and vivid color reproducibility for which Leica lenses are so well known. The result is a compact, easy-to-carry camera that delivers beautiful pictures.

Two Image Stabilization Modes to Meet Different Shooting Needs
The TZ1 has two different O.I.S. modes to meet different shooting needs. This image stabilization system is a Panasonic original. It was developed to help compensate for camera movement, but its main goal is to achieve the highest possible image quality in the resulting photo. MEGA O.I.S. helps you get the clearest shots possible.

Fast Linear AF System
The TZ1 is the first LUMIX model to adopt a Linear AF system and, combined with the high speed AF function achieves an industry-leading high speed AF response time. In addition to the faster focusing speed, the system makes the movement of the AF lens quieter. It is also now possible to zoom in while recording motion images. The superior AF capabilities also enable an increased speed in continuous AF, allowing easy and precise focusing even when shooting moving subjects. Together with the TZ1's overall quick response time and the power of the Venus Engine III, this linear AF system also contributes to the short startup time of 0.95 sec. As a result, stress free photography with never a moment missed.

Selection of 3 Aspect Ratios
The aspect ratio is easily selectable between 16:9 wide, 3:2 and conventional 4:3 to shoot in the framing aspect that best suits the subjects' composition or the image's purpose of use. You can shoot images in the wide 16:9 format. Then insert the recorded SD Memory Card into a TV equipped with an SD card slot to view them in perfect, wide-screen size. Some TVs will display the image in stunning high definition.

High-Resolution 2.5" LCD
The large 2.5" LCD monitor has a total of 207,000 pixels, which gives it high resolution. The difference is easy to see, with much greater clarity, both when shooting and during playback.

High Angle Mode for Easy Viewing
The new High Angle Mode makes the display extremely easy to view from bottom angle, for example, when taking photos raising a hand upward to shoot the subject over the crowd. This option can be set instantly by the independent button.

Power LCD
You probably know how difficult it is to see an LCD image on a sunny day. When that happens with the DMC-TZ1, all you have to do is hold the DISPLAY/LCD button down a little longer and then select Power LCD mode from the screen. The LCD backlight becomes about 1.4 times brighter to produce clear, easy-to-see images even in bright sunlight.

Brighter 2.5" LCD Monitor Shows Even Dark Scenes Clearly
The bright 2.5" LCD monitor is easy to see when taking photos. The pixel-mixed readout method is used to automatically increase the brightness level of live images according to the level of ambient darkness. This allows bright, easy framing of scenes that would normally be too dark to see.

Venus Engine III / High Sensitivity (ISO 800) for Preventing Blurry Shots from Moving Subjects
The Venus Engine III inherits the conventional Venus Engine II's quick response and high quality image output, yet dramatically reduces noise levels. This makes it possible to shoot at ISO 800 in full resolution. This results in a broadening of your photographic horizons as you are now able to take advantage of high shutter speeds which suppress image blur caused by subject movement, such as children and pets, especially indoors.

Super-Fast Shutter Response and Start-up Time
Panasonic slashed the release time lag to 0.006 second minimum by increasing both the circuit speed itself and the point at which the shutter release signal is detected. The shutter interval was also shortened to around 0.5second (minimum). These improvements help make LUMIX an extremely quick, responsive camera that's a pleasure to use. The camera starts up in an industry-leading 0.95 sec., placing it ahead of the pack of other high zoom cameras in the market.

3 Frames per Second - MEGA BURST Consecutive Shooting
Just keep the shutter button pressed to fire off consecutive shots of a moving subject or a person's changing facial expression. Then save only the best ones. With a digital camera, you can just delete any shots you don't want. In addition, the Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function lets you continue shooting until the memory card or the built-in memory is full.

Zooming for Motion Pictures Too.
In addition to standard VGA (640x480) at 30 fps motion image recording, the TZ1 also records stunning full-size movies in wide-aspect VGA (848x480) at 30 fps, enabling you to view them on your wide screen TV. The brightness level of these motion images is also enhanced as a result of the pixel-mixed readout method performed by the CCD. Zooming in while recording motion images is also possible thanks to the linear AF system, while image clarity is secured by the Optical Image Stabilizer.

Mode Dial / 18 Scene Mode
The mode dial makes it easy to take beautiful shots in almost any situation. Or choose Simple Mode and just aim and shoot. Even first-time users can take great photos. A variety of Scene Mode settings optimize baby portraits, night scenes, and more. The TZ1 is also equipped with modes such as Beach Mode, Aerial Mode, and Underwater Mode for use when traveling.

Digital Fun and Flexibility - Enjoy functions that only a digital camera can offer, such as "Travel Date" for setting the departure day when setting out on a trip with the TZ1, you can display which day of the trip each photo was taken. You'll find new ways to explore the fun and creativity of photography.

Built-In Memory - Take photos even when you don't have an SD Memory Card on hand. The built-in memory holds up to 13.4MB of image data, which you can later copy to an SD Memory Card or PC. You can also copy images from a memory card or PC to the built-in memory, and view them on the LCD anytime you like.

9/25 Multi Display & Calendar Display - The large LCD allows the display of images even in tiny thumbnail size. Playback of 9 and 25 is possible on a multi-split screen in addition to the normal 1 frame playback. This helps you to search for the image you want out of a number of images stored on the SD Memory Card, even if the images are in bulk.

Favorite Image Slideshow - You can place virtual checkmarks on your favorite images to group them together, then make a slideshow with only those images or delete the ones without checkmarks if you no longer need them.

AF Assist Lamp - Provides extra lighting as a focusing aid for slightly dark situations where AF focusing would ordinarily be difficult.

Composition Guide Lines - Displayed in the LCD, these thin horizontal and vertical lines make it easy for you to compose your shots or to hold the camera level.

Real-Time Histograms - This graph, which can be displayed in the LCD monitor as you line up the shot, shows the status of the exposure and contrast in real-time.

You can set the time and date for 74 locations across the world.

Travel Date Setting - By setting the departure day when setting out on a trip with the TZ1, you can display which day of the trip each photo was taken on while viewing. Great for organizing your travel photos.

Calendar Display - The TZ1 also features the new Calendar Display. It shows the day that each shot was taken, which makes it easy to group and play back all of the shots taken on a particular day.

Auto Angle Detection - This function detects and records whether the photo is being shot horizontally or vertically, then automatically rotates all vertically framed images during playback so they can be easily seen on the LCD monitor or TV screen.*

Audio Recording & Built-in Speaker - Add 5 seconds of sound to pictures, as you shoot. Or, if you prefer, add up to 10 seconds of sound after shooting. New built-in speaker lets you listen to ambient sounds or dialog while immediately viewing your images on-site.

Economy Mode - This mode saves battery power by turning off the LCD after a certain amount of idle time. There are two economy levels to choose from. Level 1: LCD turns off when the camera has been idle for 15 seconds. Level 2: Same as Level 1, plus the LCD turns off when the camera has been idle for 5 seconds after you've taken a shot.
