Sony has announced two major firmware updates for the Sony Alpha a9. The updates add a range of features. This includes improved tracking in both stills and video, as well as the updated ‘Real-time Tracking’ mode that lets you specify a subject and it’ll prioritize their eye. This is likely to be especially useful in video mode. A real-time Eye AF mode, which will come to the a9, a7 III and a7R III, lets you specify in advance which eye (left, right or closest) you want the camera to focus on. Version 6.0, extends Eye AF to animals on the a9. This will help when photographing weddings with the family pets included in the wedding party! The a7R III and a7 III will also gain the improved Eye-AF and animal Eye AF. As well as time-lapse capabilities with their updates.
