Mavic Air 2 vs Mavic 2 Pro

April 10, 2021 by BuyDig Team Leave a Comment

If you’ve been on the search for the best drone with the ability to capture quality images, you may have already made the decision to purchase the Mavic 2 Pro. However, you may have made that decision prematurely if you made it before the release of the Mavic Air 2. The Mavic Air 2 comes with a few features not available on the Mavic 2 Pro. So let’s compare the Mavic Air 2 vs Mavic 2 Pro to make sure you get the drone that fits your needs.

The Mavic 2 Pro
When the Mavic 2 Pro was released in 2018, it didn’t take it long to become DJI’s most popular folding drone despite its large price tag. With its specs including a Hasselblad camera and a 1-inch camera sensor for capturing 4K video at 100Mbps, the Mavic Pro 2 from Buydig.com also became a favorite for serious photographers. These specs also include multi-direction obstacle avoidance sensors. This is nice when flying at the maximum flight speed of 72Km/h. The Mavic Pro 2 ensures the safest drone flight possible during its 30-minute flight time. The Mavic 2 Pro specs also include OcuSync 2.0 to enhance connectivity. This increases the range of the connection to the remote control and other accessories so you can worry less if your drone flies out of sight. Coming in at a sweet price point, you’ll want to purchase a few accessories to ensure you keep your investment from getting damaged. A landing pad is a nice accessory to help improve your landing skills. This drone accessory is also great for checking if your Mavic 2 Pro needs to be recalibrated. One of the most important drone accessories to add is a replacement battery. You can never have too much flight time!

The Mavic Air 2
The new Mavic Air 2 also has OcuSync 2.0. However, the Mavic Air 2 specs have also been upgraded with ActiveTrack 3.0 for even more reliable obstacle avoidance recognition. The camera on the Mavic Air 2 will stay locked on the subject while still allowing you to have control over its movements with the Spotlight Mode. This feature allows you to control the drone while it’s tracking. Set your phone on top of the larger remote controller instead of clipping it in between. With the new Ocusync technology, the Mavic Air 2 has bumped up its specs to 10Km 1080p video transmission vs 8Km found on the Mavic 2 Pro. The new specs found on the Mavic Air 2 may make it superior to the Mavic 2 Pro. The price of the Mavic Air 2 makes it an enticing purchase for more pilots. With the ability to purchase the Mavic Air 2 at the price of $799 from Buydig.com, or the price of $879 for a bundle including 3 batteries, you have money left over for drone accessories. Add on extra drone accessories like batteries for extra flying time, or a hard shell backpack for safe travels.

Best for Beginners
The Mavic Air 2 has several features making it the best drone for beginners. It has AirSense that will alert you when there are airplanes or helicopters nearby. This is a great feature to have on a drone for kids especially. The Mavic Air 2 weighs about half as much as the Mavic 2 Pro. At 570 grams, it’s a great drone for beginners to carry around. You’ll get in a little more flying practice with the Mavic Air 2 when you choose it as your drone for beginners. The flight time of the Mavic Air 2 is about 34-minutes vs the 30 minutes you get with the Mavic 2 Pro. If you’re looking for a drone for adults that are into aerial photography, the Mavic Air 2 records video in 4K at up to 60FPS. The Mavic 2 Pro only records video in 4K at 30FPS. The Mavic Air 2 also gives you more detailed resolutions with its higher bitrate of 120Mbps instead of 100Mbps found on the Mavic 2 Pro.

Best for Professional Use
If you’re using a drone for photography, videography or for real estate, the Mavic Pro 2 will give you more freedom in your post-processing. The Mavic Pro 2 records videos in 10-bit and the Mavic Air 2 only uses 8-bit. This gives the Mavic Pro 2 4 times more dynamic range and color levels than the Mavic Air 2. You’ll have the ability to bring out shadows and add highlights where needed. Ideal for those real estate shots. The Mavic Air 2 doesn’t do this as well. Larger sensors equal less noise when shooting in low light. Exactly what you’re looking for in a drone for photography. The Mavic Pro 2 has a larger sensor at 1-inch vs the ½” sensor on the Mavic Air 2. This is another spec that makes the Mavic Pro 2 the best drone for photography.
