LG C1 vs LG C2 TVs

May 26, 2022 by BuyDig Team Leave a Comment

                                                  LG C1 C2

The time has come for the evolution and next generation of the most well-balanced OLED TVs available.  The LG C2 Smart OLED TV.  It’s predecessor, the LG C1, was awarded by CES as the 2021 BEST OF INNOVATION award and is considered one of the best values of OLED TVs compared to its competition.

So naturally, we are enthusiastic to see what LG has in store for us with its next generation model of one of LG’s most popular products.  Let’s get into it and break it down, see what’s new and what has changed.  Is the new LG C2 OLED TV better than the C1?  Is it worth it?  In short, yes.  Of course, it is a better TV.  It is LG’s next generation so certainly it has been improved to be more powerful and better in every way.  Not to take away from the C1 model which remains a monster of a TV and would still be a wise choice for many.  The C2 carries everything great from the C1 over and brings extra power and features.  I will speak to the C1 and then add everything that is different and new with the C2.

LG C1 OLED

LG OLED

The OLED LG C1 TV is a masterpiece of modern television technology.  It has it all.  Amazing picture quality, cutting edge features and sleek design.  For the price, no other TV comes close.

The C1’s stunning picture uses organic light emitting diodes to create perfect black levels for infinite contrast that outperforms any QLED or LED out there.  Only the absolute top of the line QLED and LED TVs can come close to the C1 and there is still a noticeable difference how much better the C1 is.

This TV to be extremely thin, OLED allows for it to be thinner than any LCD TV out there and is unbelievably light weight.  The front view is almost all picture with a very small sleek border.  LG’s stand goes almost the complete width of the panel giving it a sleek accent in the front and around back has a weight that is very stable, unless you choose to wall mount.  I prefer this TV is wall mounted since the picture encompasses the entire panel of the TV.  It just looks so good.

The remote has a ton of buttons with the ability to control other devices.  The motion control allows you to point a curser at the screen.  This remote is a little bit more complex than competitors with plenty of buttons and shortcut keys to streaming services as well.  The C1 has 3 built in voice assistants including Alexa, Google Assistant, and LG’s own Think services.  You can use the remote to control whatever’s connected, like turning on/off lights or searching for content, etc.

The C1 boasts an a9 Gen 4 AI processor 4k and a 4k Ultra HD display resolution.  When compared side by side with a high end 8k QLED TV, there were not many noticeable differences.  Although the 8k did seem to get a bit brighter in certain displays, the perfect black and smooth motion technology of the C1 provided a sharper picture with a more exceptional contrast.  The C1 also has plenty of options when it comes to image settings.  Weather watching a movie or gaming, there are multiple modes to choose from including one called FilmMaker which accurately delivers the directors original version with original aspect ratios, colors, and frame rates.  Dolby Vision IQ intelligently adjusts picture settings based on content and genre, while Dolby Atmos delivers multi-dimensional surround sound.

If you’re a gamer, you will love this TV.  It does things for gaming no other TV offers.  The inputs are more capable than most competitors with four 2.1 compatible HDMI inputs.  This means that they can handle 4k 120hz input which is the highest you can get from the PS5 and Xbox series consoles.  Additionally, they work with PC cards, so you can connect all 3 to this TV.

The C1’s new Game Optimizer mode puts all your game settings in one place.  It starts with a status display which shows you all the basic stats you need about gaming for those high end consoles, including variable refresh rate status, the current frame rate status, as well s the picture mode for gaming, and weather the TV is in input lag reduction mode.  All of this information at a glance works really great for gamers.  You can play with pretty much any setting in Game Optimizer.  The C1 has terrific input lag for gaming around 13 milliseconds and there’s a boost mode where you can reduce it even further.

You can see why the C1 is an excellent, highly rated, and popular TV no matter what purpose you may use it for. The LG OLED C1 is available in 48”, 55”, 65” and 77”.

LG C2 OLED
LG OLEDThe new LG C2 2022 OLED TV delivers the exceptional quality picture I was expecting and more.  The appearance is stunning with updated even smaller borders around the frame of the TV giving it that all picture look (C1 is also tiny and can only tell the difference when they’re side by side).  This years C2 model also is much lighter at only 37 lbs. including the stand vs last year’s C1 at 72Lbs.  The C2 has new carbon fiber materials which contribute to the feathery weight.  I personally like the stand better on the C2 as it is narrower and elevates the TV giving it a nice, suspended appearance.  LG has updated their webOS for a better app and menu presentation.  The C2 also features the TV responding to voice command for services without using the remote at all.

The C2 has an updated a9 Gen 5 AI processor 4k presenting you with an even better perfect black imagery and fully demonstrating the power of OLED.  LG has also integrated into the TVs picture settings to detect and prevent burning which OLED TVs are more susceptible to.

LG has given the C2 more control over the brightness for up to 20% brighter screen and deeper contrasts.  You can see the difference in the much smoother gradient on the C2 vs C1.  The Smooth Motion also seems to make the picture just a bit more crisp and clean with vivid colors and true blacks.

It’s amazing how fast the C2’s interface works when scrolling through the C2’s apps and options.  The C1 is fast but the new o22 chip type used in the C2 offers much faster speeds, which dramatically reduces loading times.

There are also changes in the gaming features to go along with the already bolstered gaming features of the 2021 C1.  When using Game Optimizer you can choose a new Strategy mode, first person shooter and role-playing mode and now a sports mode.  All adjust the black levels and brightness differently depending on the mode which you can see reflected on the screen.  The C2 also utilizes NVIDIA G-SYNC, FreeSync Premium and VRR to experience in real-time action.

The C1 is a great OLED TV.  LG took what was great about the C1 and made it even better with its C2, with more power, better images, more control, better safety, improved features, and new ones.  The C2 is one of the best and brightest TVs around.  Also available in 48”, 55”, 65” and 77”.

So, is the C2 better than the C1?  Yes.  Is it worth it?  You can save some money going with the C1 which is still one of the best OLED TVs, but if you want more power and the absolute best, you must go with the C2.  Sure, there are more competitors coming out with OLEDs in 2022, however they will be priced higher than the C2 and LG has a proven track record with the OLED C1 & C2 TVs.  Both have received multiple awards.  The C1 & C2 are some of the best TVs.
