Science and Technology in Schools

September 21, 2016 by BuyDig Team 2 Comments

Children are growing up in a society where technology has become a significant part of everyday life. In today’s schools, science and technology have become intertwined because they both inspire students to form questions about what they see and learn. New technology helps to make science concepts more tangible and easier for kids to grasp and understand. Research has shown a positive correlation between computer technology and higher achievement in science subjects.  Because of this, schools are using many methods of technology to enhance the learning experience. To help parents see what’s going on, we are exploring what’s happening in the classroom.

3D Printer
With the implementation of STEM curriculum into the schools where students are shown how the traditional math and science concepts are applied to everyday life comes the need for 3D printers like this XYZ Printing Da Vinci from Buydig.com.  Students as young as pre-school are creating their own designs. Then getting to see them 3D printed while teachers explain what is happening every step of the way.  Intermediate elementary age students are creating and 3D printing robotic parts. Not only for STEM classes, but for state academic competitions as well.  High school teachers say that 3D printers work well as a hook to get teenagers motivated in not only science, but math subjects like geometry as well.

Computers, Laptops and Chromebooks
Computer technology has provided a wealth of resources, information and knowledge to students of all ages.  They are able to access information via the internet on whatever subject they want or need both during and after school hours.  Research has found that computer technology has helped to improve students’ grades in many subjects, but most notably science.  You can find desktop computers inside of the classrooms. Also, computer labs as well as mobile laptop and Chromebook carts that can be rolled to any classroom where a computer is needed for every student to be able to work on a project or assignment at the same time.

Tablets
With over 65,000 education apps designed for iPads and tablets, just about every subject, grade level, and learning style is covered.  Many school districts have gone away form purchasing the expensive textbooks. They are instead using digital textbooks that students can upload onto their tablets.  This not only saves the district thousands upon thousands of dollars, but also eliminates the need for the students to carry around all of those heavy books in their backpacks.  Teachers can upload various types of content to the students’ devices. Things such as quizzes, videos, interactive 3D graphics, and informational slides for any subject.  Plus most students feel that using a tablet helps them to study more efficiently.

Digital SLR Cameras
Digital SLR cameras like the Canon EOS 6D Full Frame from Buydig.com are also a big part of science and technology in the school system.  Students learn how to set up these cameras on tripods and use the time-lapse mode to record and document everything from the lifecycle of a plant and a frog to solar eclipses and the phases of the moon.  They also go out into the world and photograph natural phenomenon. Things such as Katydids surfacing every 17 years and fossils from class fossil digs.

The use of technology in schools has enabled teachers to make their science lessons more interactive, interesting and engaging.  It has shown to improve student performance. This is because science lessons are more memorable and students are able to retain the information more effectively.  The internet and use of technology also helps teachers to find more exciting and useful resources. The students will be inspired and will get excited about learning.
