Healthy Habits to Help You Stay Fit this Fall

November 4, 2017 by BuyDig Team Leave a Comment

Fall is a favorite time of year for many people. However, the colder weather and impending holiday stress can cause you to fall off the fitness wagon. But it doesn’t have to be that way because there are plenty of enjoyable ways to stay fit this fall. We have some tips for staying active during this chilly season to help you maintain healthy habits now and throughout the holiday season.

Eating Habits
Do you have healthy habits you’ve maintained throughout the summer? Maybe you wake up with a green smoothie made in your Ninja Professional Style Blender with Single Serve from Buydig.com, or walk around the park on your lunch break. Some routines might need tweaking, like choosing a warmer breakfast. But if you have a habit that works for you, don’t feel forced to eliminate or change it completely. You might be able to simply make some adjustments for it to work in cooler weather as well.

Autumn’s arrival is no excuse to stop eating fresh produce. Hit the farmer’s market for the colorful options fall offers like carrots, broccoli, Brussel sprouts and squash. Most fall foods can be prepared in healthy and unhealthy ways, so be careful with your recipes. Think broth soups instead of creamy ones, or sliced apples instead of apple pie. If all else fails, stock your freezer with frozen vegetables to keep your produce intake up.

Don’t forget to include fall’s star attraction, the pumpkin. Look for the smaller, ball-shaped varieties and use them for soups, pancakes and other healthier than pie alternatives. You can also roast the seeds in an electric skillet for a delicious snack. A 100-gram serving of pumpkin seeds is about 125 calories and contains magnesium, phosphorus and zinc.

Crisp Outdoors
The best way to start a fall fitness routine is to tie your activities to the events taking place around you. Whether it’s a day at a farm or a 30-minute walk after dinner, spend as much time outside now as possible. Just stay safe by dressing in layers to keep warm, wearing sunscreen and being prepared for it to get dark early. Here are some ways you can maximize your outdoor time this season.

Hop on your bike and ride down a tree-lined trail.

Map out a trail with the GPS on your Garmin Vivosmart and take a hike through the colorful fall foliage.

Conquer a corn maze. Chasing your kids around a corn maze can get your heart pumping which you can keep track of with your Garmin Vivosmart HR + Activity Tracker from Buydig.com. With all of the stops and goes when you hit dead ends, it even mimics interval training.

Rake the leaves in your yard to burn about 220 calories per hour. You can also burn a few extra calories by jumping in that leaf pile after you’ve finished raking.

The fall is a popular time for themed 5Ks such as costumed Halloween dashes and Thanksgiving Day turkey trots. Put one on your calendar now and start working toward that goal keeping track of your progress with your Garmin Vivosmart.

Fall doesn’t have to mean packing on the weight while hibernating in front of the television. So grab a friend and find some local parks or trails to walk, run or bike and take in the view of changing leaves.
