How to Nail Spring Break without Breaking the Bank

April 4, 2018 by BuyDig Team Leave a Comment

Winter is finally coming to an end and many of us are feeling a bit of cabin fever. Nothing sounds better right now than getting out of town for spring break. But are families with a limited budget doomed to stay home during vacation? Check out these great budget-friendly spring break ideas that can get your family out of the house and making memories without breaking the bank.

For Active/Outdoorsy Families
While spring break is often still pretty cool in many parts of the country, sometimes you can drive just a few hours to find some great outdoor locations with warmer weather and plenty of activities for the entire family. If you live near a coast line, a beach vacation can be a great, budget-friendly spring break vacation. If it’s still a little cool on the beach, try kite flying and visiting lighthouses for some incredible photos with your camera from Buydig.com. Many national parks are open to the public during spring break as well and are very budget friendly. If you visit a national park, be sure to check out the Junior Ranger Program for your children. If you have a fourth grader, your child can gain your family entry to the National Parks for free. Military members also receive free entrance to national parks. The great thing about these locations is that if the hotel lodging is too expensive, you can usually find campgrounds or RV parks to fit your budget.

Free Fun
If the beach and the outdoors are not your thing, a great way to plan a budget-friendly spring break is by checking out free family activities nearby. Plan an entire vacation around doing those activities, and maybe staying at a hotel and swimming in the pool. You may be surprised at the amount of free activities you find. Some freebies or discounts include museums, local markets and even just finding a great park to play in.

Day at the Park
A cheap and easy spring break activity to do with your family is to spend a day at a local park. You can pack a lunch, snacks, and drinks. While there, get your kids active with some kite flying, Frisbee throwing, Frisbee golf, horseshoe tossing and shuffleboard.

Hiking
Take your family on a hiking trip. As adults, we enjoy the quiet of the forest along with its natural beauty. Kids enjoy that for about 5 minutes and then want to know what’s next.  Entertain them by giving a few ‘quests’ to complete along the way. Play a fun game of “I Spy” as you walk. Challenge them to a color hike by trying to find an item for colors you name, or look for animal tracks as you walk.

Camping
You don’t have to spend a bundle to take your family camping. Don’t limit yourself to campsites, either. If the cost of gas, groceries, and campsites are too expensive, just pitch the tent in your backyard. Your kids will think it’s the coolest thing in the world. Set up the LG LED Projector w/ Bluetooth Sound & Screen Share from Buydig.com in your backyard for an added family movie night while camping.

Whatever the case may be, the important thing to remember is that your kids are going to remember the fun things you did, not the money you spent.
