Camping 101: 10 Essentials for a Successful Trip

June 17, 2018 by BuyDig Team Leave a Comment

If you’re ready to head out to the great outdoors with your favorite crew, go camping! To help you get out under the stars, we’ve put together 10 basic must-haves for camping that will ensure everyone on the trip has a good experience.

Tent
If you want to sleep comfortably, make sure you choose a tent with a sleeping capacity about double the size of your family. Sure, your standard four-man tent will fit four people, but none of your luggage, shoes, or toys.

Camp stove
You need to be able to cook and heat food. Whether it’s a full camp stove or a single Char-Griller Grillin Pro Gas Grill, you’ll want to have a fuel source to be able to cook things at the drop of the hat without having to make a full campfire.

Lighter
A simple lighter is one of those things that is essential when it comes to camping gear. You’ll need it to start your campfire at night, and maybe even your stove.

Cooler
Choose one that’s a little bigger than you think it needs to be. There’s always something else to throw in the cooler. An even better choice is one on wheels so it’s easier to tote from your car to your campsite.

First aid kit
If you are camping with kids, this is one thing you will want to be certain is part of your camping checklist. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

Lantern or headlamp
You’re going to need a light source, so make sure you pack some Streamlight Hand Lanterns from Buydig.com, along with replacement batteries. Pack enough for each of your kids to have their own, too. What child doesn’t love running around with a flashlight in the campground after dark?

Food
Write down what you plan to eat for each meal. Then prepare what you can at home—marinate the meats, cut the vegetables, wrap the potatoes in foil. You’ll be thankful once you get to camp. When you pack the cooler, set out the foods meal by meal, thinking about how you’ll serve each meal so you don’t forget condiments and necessary utensils, can opener, etc.

Insect repellent
Nothing can ruin a good campout like a bad bug problem. Be sure to pack your favorite insect repellent to keep the pesky biters away!

Bikes
If it’s a long way from your campsite to the beach or play area, it’s faster, and more fun, to use a bike instead of walking. Bikes help keep the kids entertained, too.

There’s no doubt about it, camping is hard work. But it’s worth it! You’re guaranteed to make lasting family memories, enjoy lots of laughs, and get plenty of outdoor time for the kids.
